Overall, I really enjoyed my time in Perhentian Islands. I stayed in the 4 bed A/C dorm room at Matahari Chalet. Location is great - just off the main Long Beach. Room is kept at a good temperature throughout the day with curtains closed and a/c works well when electricity is switched on from 18:30-10:00. Staff were very friendly and helpful but sometimes difficult to find someone at reception - a bit of a construction site. It was very useful that you could pay with card (small fee) and save cash for everything else on the island. The bathrooms were quite basic, tended to get flooded easily and were a haven for mosquitos. The most disappointing aspect of the stay was multiple guests waking up with many bites pretty consistent with bed bugs. If this hadn’t happened would have been a great stay (basic) at a great price if you’re happy to not be in super luxury but unfortunately the bites tarnished the...
Read moreWe stayed in an aircon dorm, the aircon blew out warm air and the rooms themselves looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for a long time. The sheets were clean and so were the towels but the floor needed a good sweep and there was cobwebs everywhere. The beds were comfortable but there were dead bugs and dust next to the mattresses. The shower was powerful but the bathroom was very outdated & we were not given any toilet roll. There was black mould on the ceilings and the pillows & mattresses were covered in mould and orange / black stains. The surrounding area was full of broken and disused items and the reception area looked like it was not even open. Getting in touch with people was difficult and there was no WiFi offered. It overall felt like it was derelict / on its way to being abandoned. Would not recommend as it is definitely a health hazard for breathing & a breeding ground...
Read moreLet’s start with the good points first: The bungalows are located just the second row next to Long Beach Rooms are spacious, there is a small terrace with chairs and daylight comes in You get a private bathroom, which is not standard for this price class on the island The staff was friendly
Nevertheless we have to commit that during our already 4 months travelling around South East Asia, this accommodation and in general the standard on the whole island was the worst value for money we’ve got. (We paid 90 RM/night) the bungalows could be cleaner and better maintained even though there is a fan, it gets really hot in the rooms, isolation is quite bad no wifi at all and no electricity from 10 am to 6 pm, as most of the parts of the island are still requiring petrol generators for electricity breakfast is not included in the room rate, as the restaurat is...
