Terrible Experience - Ruined New Year’s Stay
Right now, I feel like a beggar on New Year's Day, going around complaining and even "pleading" for an upgrade. My goodness, I swear I will make sure everyone sees this on every platform possible.
I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel at all costs. This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, with poor service, lack of professionalism, and unacceptable management.
Check-in Disaster: I booked through a third-party platform, which clearly stated check-in was at 4 PM. Since I arrived at the hotel at 10:30 AM, I asked if early check-in was possible. The staff assured me they would arrange it and asked me to come back at 1 PM. At 1 PM, they said to wait until 2 PM, and then 3 PM. Finally, I got the room at 4 PM, as originally scheduled. Meanwhile, our luggage (two backpacks) was carelessly dumped in a waterlogged corner—unacceptable and disrespectful. Room Issues: Initially, we were placed in a ground-floor room by the sea. However, there was zero privacy as passersby could see right into the room, so we requested a change. We were moved to a second-floor room, but it didn’t get better: • The bedspread had stains and was torn at the edges (see my uploaded video). • The hairdryer only works if you hold the button down the entire time. • The bedside lamp flickered like something out of a horror movie. • The minibar drawer wouldn’t stay closed and kept sliding back and forth. • No toiletries were provided until I specifically went to the front desk to ask for them. Service Failures: I reported these issues around 10 times, either by phone or in person at the front desk. Each time, I was met with a half-hearted “sorry” and no follow-up. On New Year’s Eve, the staff promised me (yes, promised) two days of complimentary breakfast and an upgraded room to make up for the inconvenience. Guess what? Only the breakfast materialized. No room upgrade, no communication, no follow-through. On New Year’s Day, I called the front desk multiple times after being ignored for hours. They intentionally avoided my calls—five unanswered attempts. Eventually, they moved us to another room one floor higher, but it was exactly the same type of room with the same issues. No resolution whatsoever. Worst of all, there was no record of my complaints, no action plan, and absolutely no care shown by the staff. Possible Discrimination: As a Chinese guest, I couldn’t help but feel my concerns were ignored because of my background. This was a miserable New Year’s experience for me, and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Final Thoughts: This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, hands down. Poor service, unprofessional staff, and no sense of responsibility. If you’re looking for a pleasant vacation, stay far away from this place.

Read moreFar Below Hyatt Standards – A Very Disappointing Stay I recently stayed at Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort and, while the pool and beachfront location are undeniably beautiful, almost everything else about the experience was disappointing and far below the standards one would expect from the Hyatt brand.
Two days before my arrival, I sent an email to confirm that a baby cot would be ready for my toddler son. I never received any reply, neither a confirmation nor a refusal. On the way to the hotel, I called reception to check, and a staff member assured me it would be arranged before we arrived. Since we were reaching late, around 9 pm, I expected it to be ready so my son could go straight to sleep. Unfortunately, when we checked in, the cot was not prepared.
The check-in itself was frustrating. The parking near the reception was full, but no one informed us of this in advance. After driving around in circles, we realized we had no choice but to leave the car by the roadside. This was especially inconvenient with luggage and a sleeping child. To make matters worse, the room assigned to us was located in a separate building far from the main one. The building felt abandoned, completely empty, with no staff, no reception, and no facilities. It looked as though it was only opened when the main building reached full capacity. This alone left a very bad impression.
I had booked a room with a garden view, but instead was given one facing the main road. When I requested a change, I was initially told the hotel was fully booked and nothing could be done. After I insisted, a “miracle” happened and suddenly another room became available in the main building. This new room offered a partial garden view but was located directly in front of a loud generator, which ran until 9 pm each night. Hardly the peaceful stay I had hoped for.
The condition of the facilities was also unacceptable. The shower area showed signs of mold, the outdoor furniture was heavily worn with peeling wood, and even the bedside lamp in the room had mold on it. Walls were so thin that I could hear conversations from neighboring rooms, making it impossible to relax. Overall, the hotel felt old, poorly maintained, and neglected.
This stay was absolutely below Hyatt standards. If you are looking for comfort, quiet, and the quality usually associated with this brand, this property will not provide it. Despite the lovely beachside setting, the lack of service, maintenance, and basic comfort completely overshadowed the positives. I will think twice in the future before booking another stay under...
Read moreWe had a wonderful 3 days 2 night family stay at Hyatt Regency Kuantan. The location is unbeatable the beach is clean, well maintained, and the resort grounds are clearly well taken care of. You’ll often see the maintenance team and handymen ensuring everything stays in good shape, which we really appreciated.
One major plus is how walkable and convenient everything is. Within just 2 minutes’ walk, we had access to KFC, Starbucks, McDonald’s, Family Mart, and even a large local food court super handy when you’ve got hungry kids or just want to try something different without driving out. The location makes it easy to enjoy both resort life and nearby amenities.
We stayed in the Family Room to accommodate our family of five. The king bed and big lounger were excellent spacious and comfortable. However, the sofa bed (more like a thick mattress on the floor) felt a bit basic. The kids actually said it didn’t feel like “hotel standard” so a firmer or elevated option would really enhance comfort.
Also, while the room includes a second toilet, it would be great if it had a simple shower as well. After the beach, especially with kids, it’s not ideal having only one shower to clean up. We ended up doing a light rinse at the pool shower area, which helped, but having a second in room shower would make a big difference for families.
The kids’ playroom was under renovation during our visit. While we’re excited to see how it turns out, we do feel that having some alternative indoor activities for children (especially during hot or rainy hours) would really round out the family experience.
Pro tip for future guests:
If you want to enjoy the beach with minimal crowd and a more relaxed vibe, we strongly recommend coming on weekdays or outside of school holidays. It was much quieter and peaceful on Tues Thursday. Friday and weekends tend to get busier, especially in public areas like the pool and dining spots.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay. From the friendly service and clean rooms to the ideal location and lovely beach, everything came together for a great family trip. Even my wife is already planning our next visit — and that...
