Booked into Knight Alley for a couple of nights when in Taiping. Location was very good & near the Larut Matang Hawker Centre with many food stalls. The guesthouse has 6 parking spots, three on the front & three on the side of the convenience store. ||Staff were very helpful & clearly explained everything at check-in & showed us to our room. The decor of the whole place is quite quirky & cutesy like apartments in Korean dramas. ||There is a common area & kitchen on our floor (we assume every floor). A water cooler was very welcome. There was a laundry on the ground level which could be used. There were little bottles of mineral water at reception which people could help themselves to but with the water coolers around, perhaps they should remove this to be greener? There was a vending machine & snacks on sale, like pot noodles. There were also prayer mats. They seem to have thought of everything! ||The room itself was very spacious & though there wasn't any storage space, there were quite a few hooks to hang things on. The toilet is on the side of the street so glass is glazed & that's where the windows are. ||Some negatives about Knight Alley: ||- Very loud trickling sound into the drainage pipe when the sink is used. Worse than when we were showering. |- No sound proofing so you can hear neighbours esp when they are in the bathroom. |- Shaky glass window panels which form the exterior wall; a bit dangerous if one were to slip & fall & hit the panel.|- There was no soap at the sink|- Flush button would get stuck & has to be released to stop the water from continuously flowing |- As the shower & toilet are not separated, the floor gets wet after a shower |- There was no TV in the room |- Separate front door has to be used when the reception is un-manned from 11pm till 7am but it is stiff & doesn't close properly. ||We liked the location of Knight Alley & the staff were really nice. There was a farewell gift at the end of a note & a badge/pin which was a nice touch. It was really busy when we were there, with many guests, so it's obvious it's a popular place to stay. ||Overall, we liked our stay at Knight Alley. It felt homey & cosy & we had good nights' sleep there. A few things could be improved for the safety & security of the guests, though. This would make it a much better...
Read moreWe booked 2 rooms for 3 nights straight and were given Room no 314 and 315. Firstly when we are about to check in and was invited by a dispute among a group of people with one service staff.
The check in was a breeze, and we moved on to taking lift up to 3rd floor. Upon entering the rooms, its 2 separate rooms with own doors combine with one main door. We are a family of 5 pax and my bro in law with his wife took the queen size bed room whereas my own fam of 3 took 3 single beds room.
Initially when we first entered, both my sister in law and me felt uneasy. Secondly, when i went into the bathroom, there’s a floor mat on top of the toilet bowl so I wanted to remove and place on the floor. To my greatest horror, there were almost 20 flies beneath the floor mat and on the toilet bowl cover!!! 😱 My hubby immediately came to my rescue by spraying the toilet for us to use. I was greatly traumatised by this event already. Still we took shower (uneasily) and went out for dinner.
When we returned around 10 plus, my hubby opened the main room door first so for us to assess both rooms, he saw a “yellow cloth flew” right before his eyes into our room 😱😱😱 Fyi we do not have any yellow based fabrics not interior design in that room to begin with.
Enough is enough. The first encounter of multiple flies in the toilet; followed by “mysterious cloth encounter”. We decided not to take risk to stay over moreover this is only our first night. Another 2 more things to add on, towels are yellowish and some with dark patches.
Honestly I felt so deceived by Google reviews since all these years I trusted my research using Google reviews. End up the 5 of us left the hotel at around 11 ish and switched to SSL Traders Hotel instead and paid extras due to last minute booking.
Additional update on the 29/3: When we returned keys the following day, my hubby went to lobby’s toilet. He was invited with the toilet’s door opened by itself… end up he left without using 🥹
All I can say is: definitely not recommended particularly Room 315 unless you are a paranormal hunter. Other than the location and budget pricing, will definitely not recommend. Hopefully they can refund us the balance 2...
Read moreI will start with the pro, the place has everything I need. It is popular among the family with small kids because of the slide. So expect some kids noise at the slide area until 9.00pm which is when the quiet hour begins.
It has a kitchen if you want to eat at the hotel, you know, when it rains. The kitchen is complete with a microwave, cooking hob, cutleries and a fridge. Of course dining chairs and tables are included.
It has a place to do laundry too. They don't charge for the washing machine usage. But donation is greatly appreciated. They also have a massage chair on the first floor and lounges to chill on the second and third floor.
For a budget hotel, this hotel really provides value for your money. They provide mineral water at the reception area and filtered water machines at every level. So you can simply refill the empty water bottle instead of going down to the reception area.
The place is a walkable distance to several tourist spots and restaurants. It's practically around 10 minutes walk to the lake garden, old clock tower or the new one, Ansari famous cendol. Well, you get the gist. Just be careful when you cross the street.
Now is the con, there are only 5 free available parking spots. The rest belong to MPT. Meaning from 8.00am to 6.00 pm. You have to pay the parking fee. They provide two coupons for you to use. Since I use the Flexi Parking App, I just paid online. It's only 60 cents per hour.
The wall is not sound proof. So you can hear everything. Since the hotel is filled with kids, they are known to be loud. Put this into consideration if you are the type that gets annoyed by them.
They also don't have the receptionist service after 11pm. They only resume service at 7am. So avoid checking in so late at night. There will be no one that...
