[I booked and reviewed this hotel on booking.com, but the owners’ appalling response to my review has inspired me to share it here as well.]||My 75-year-old mother and I showed up with our luggage and were struggling with it up the 6-8 steps into the lobby. Not a single person from the hotel attempted to help us with our luggage (this exact situation occurred when we were leaving — the employee who checked me out literally watched as my mother struggled down the steps with her suitcase to get to the front door). * bizarrely, the hotel owner, who I know was not present because he is a man and only female employees were there at the time, wrote: “Reading your review makes me understand that you did not even bother helping your mum with her luggage either. Reception staff were welcoming other clients when you arrived.” Both of these statements are patently false. I was in fact helping my mom with her luggage as well as struggling with my own, and no other clients were even in the lobby let alone checking in with reception staff. But thank you, Mr. Attard, for your personal attack.*||We arrived about 1 PM, but were told that there would be no early check-in, even if the room became ready earlier than 3:00pm, without paying a fee of €40. Fair enough. Having just come over on the ferry in hot weather, I asked if there was any water to drink; one front desk employee handed me a water bottle, but immediately another employee who was sitting down behind her said I needed to pay 1.40 euro for the water. I simply handed her the water back. I genuinely could not believe they did not provide water for guests even in the LOBBY. I asked if we could check our bags there and they said yes. After 3 PM when we did check in, they not only had not placed the bags in our room as a nice hotel would do, but when I went to retrieve the luggage, the staff simply opened the door and pointed to the bags — again, no offer to help us get the suitcases to the room — or even bring the bags to the door of the room that they were being stored in. The mattresses on the beds were very thin and flimsy; I’ve been to summer camps with better beds.||We did not eat any meals at the hotel restaurant at the hotel restaurant because we did not want to give them any more money, but I did order some water and a soda from the bar to take up to the pool and the bartender was very nice. ||And yes, Mr. Attard, I did have a safe journey...
Read moreThis hotel was fantastic after reading others reviews thought would give it a shot and boy it did not disappoint! The views out to sea were spectacular with gorgeous sunsets. We had the valley view and sitting watching out the back was just as entertaining! We were there during the festa and had great views of the fireworks and celebrations as well as going to watch the competitions on the water. The hotel is very clean and the air con when you walk in is very much needed in the heat. Great when you come back in from being out all day. The rooms had everything we could need, fridge, coffee making facilities and these were topped up for us each day. The cleaning staff do a fantastic job and if we needed anything we just asked and they were happy to help. The pool is a little small but if you time it right you can get it to yourself ! The manager said they were looking to do upgrades to the pool (if the hotel can hold the weight) and bathrooms in the future. The walls are very solid and the balcony doors were very sound proof from the outside goings on which was very helpful for getting some shut eye. The breakfast was a great selection of pastry’s, cereals, cooked breakfast and vegetarian option as well as juices/water/teas and coffee. You also get discount if eating in the restaurant. This is a great base to explore Xlendi and Gozo. The staff are very friendly there is also a place to keep your luggage on check out day. Would highly recommend this...
Read moreWe stayed for 2 weeks and the hotel is ok. It is a little tired and could do with a touch up. Rooms are cleaned daily and the service is good and very efficient.
Breakfast was great with lots of variety and choice. The service of staff generally is good and they want to do everything they can to help. Although there was one specific bar and restaurant manager who just wanted to make like awkward and everything seemed like it was difficult. There is no room service and the bar closes early, when the hotel feels like it, usually before 10am.
Location again appears good on the Xlendi bay. There isn't alot in Xlendi a few restaurants and shops and a couple of mini markets. Snacks are available in these places for about €10 meals with meat, chicken or fish are €20 upwards. Alcoholic drinks are very reasonably priced.
Bus service is great and the bus stop is only 50 yards from the hotel. You can be in Victoria in 10 minutes and from there you can get to anywhere on Gozo in 15 minutes. We bought weekly travel cards for unlimited travel and cost €25 each. A single trip is €2.50 and lasts 2 hours. We were recommended the moovit app by our rep and it was great and really easy to use. It shows how to get to the nearest bus stop and times of buses and connections.
You can get Uber or Bolt, the local equivalent if you don't want to wait for buses. Would I return to St Patrick's Hotel...
