I've never been so surprised with the way I've been treated as a guest (as well as a vidanta member) from accidental safety damages. The floors are very slippery in the bathroom and my boyfriend slipped & fell & hit his arm/elbow on the glass which partly shattered. He needed stitches but due to location went downstairs and was wrapped up and sent back upstairs. Later we received a call to the room that they would want to come by and fix the door, okay no problem. We leave all day but return to no fixed door. The next day after that we were asked to switch rooms, okay sure. We proceeded to check out & close out the bill with no issues, paid all of our room charges, daily room fee, etc. Not a peep about damages.
We were later met with a call from the "supervisor" who said we have damages to pay for please come by the front desk we can't tell you $ over the phone. Weird. She proceeded to tell us at reception that we never received help for his injury or reported it and it wasn't an accident it was due to my boyfriend being drunk and punching the door. Uh no.
He showed her his hands having no wounds whatsoever, offered to even take his wrap off of his arm to show how sliced up his arm was to show it was a slip and fall and how he did receive help from "your people downstairs" literally meaning her employees and she proceeds to go the "oh my people" route and begins to call him racist. My boyfriend is Mexican as well and trips up his words sometimes. He meant her employees did in fact help with his injury and I clarified right away that he meant her employees and was met with "everyone who works for vidanta are my people" okay.... so about the accidental fall? They did help him....
Well it all went south from there I have about 20+ mins of recordings of her trying to get us to change our story from accident to he was drunk and it was on purpose.
She then also tried to show us footage of him trying to "break a door" on the second floor (though wouldn't send us the footage or let me record it myself and would turn the phone away) and the video is literally 3 employees next to my boyfriend who is sitting on the floor getting assistance for his arm injury. No footage of him trying to break anything.
I then asked for the cost since I haven't been shown a bill yet and was told $4,028 MP. roughly $279 for the damages which we were told were just the mirror and door. Wild. I refuse the charges and ask for a reasonable price due to the fact that he slipped and needs stitches which will cost money when we get home if they aren't able to help, they say no so we leave.
They later hold my rental car hostage until we agree to now pay the $1,100+ USD charge that they've come up with. WILD. I asked if they are going to kick us out of our room and if we need to go gather our things and they refuse to answer the question. And proceed to start to say they are going to call the police unless we pay the new damage charges because obviously we were outraged. So we were forced to pay.
I wouldn't recommend this vidanta location to anyone. Pick somewhere else in Cabo or go to Vidanta Riviera Maya or Nuevo Vallarta.
Other examples: We paid cash and had someone try to come back and have us pay card or charge it to the room. Our ceiling leaked, the AC quit working in both rooms, the TV's don't work consistently and somebody kept trying to cast to our screen all night which kept turning the TV back on lol, not a luxurious experience.
Oh also watch out for bed bugs, my mom went to bed with no bites and woke up with clusters everywhere in straight lines.
The only good thing about this place is Christian our poolside waiter, Armando, Julio & Aheura (so sorry if I spelled wrong mi amiga) from the joy squad. They consistently checked on us and helped ensure we weren't double charged.
And vidanta please don't respond with the same robot response you send to every other negative review, I have video footage, the way the "supervisor" treated me and my boyfriend is ridiculous and the way she held our car hostage until we...
Read moreI wish this site would allow me to download pictures. I have pics of our room and they look as if I am staying at a Motel 6. But the prices of the drinks and food are outlandish. Here at Vidanta, you will pay over $23.00 USD for a Cadillac Margarita at the pool area. Absurd but true. Avoid coming and avoid buying. Lovely to visit but if you are a kind person with manners, you may want to avoid their presentation. After 5 hours you may become so worn down and what they are telling you sounds so good, you may not be able to resist. We are owners with Vidanta at their newest resort called Kingdom of the Sun, which is in Nuevo Vallarta. This is our first time staying at this property in San Jose del Cabo. Our reservation was for the Grand Mayan. However, we were given a 1-bedroom on the hotel side of the resort, on the 1st floor. This side of the building's 1st floor feels more like the basement. Usually, when you get a really good deal online, this is where timeshare resorts will put you. Then, while you are on property, they try to sell you into ownership. If you buy, they tell you as an owner you will get the better rooms. Not true with Vidanta. We need to go up a floor to get to the pool area. The room feels like we are in a dungeon. There are paint splatters all over our bathroom mirror and it looks like my 6-year old granddaughter painted the place. The floors are old, dingy and dark and we look out to a slope, which blocks the sunlight. This is not the first time we have been given a bad room. And, I am not the only owner that has complaints about the rooms they are assigned. People talk around the pool and it seems to be a common problem. We also own with The Villa Group, Villa del Palmar properties and what a difference in how the two different companies treat their owners. We have NEVER been assigned a horrible room with the Villa Group. But with Vidanta, 2 out of the 3 past visits, have been in horrible rooms. Vidanta only cares about the owners that will continue to upgrade by paying out thousands of dollars every few years. They are the epidimy of the wolf in sheep's clothing. On a semi-good note, their staff are extremely friendly but not always helpful. They are suppose to have kitchens for you to cook in. However, when I requested a measuring cup, I was told they do not have any. I wish we would have never purchased here at Vidanta. Their properties LOOK magnificent but once the ink is dry on your contract, you are treated like gum on their shoe. There are too many other choices you have if you want to buy timeshare. Do your wallet a favor, go somewhere else Also, I read one of the management's responses from another review that stated "we clearly communicate the terms and conditions associated with accepting an invitation to our sales presentation and everyone - at free will, attends." Yes, they tell you a 90-minute presentation. It is NEVER a 90- minute presentation. We have been coming to Mexico for 30 years and have attended many timeshare presentations. Vidanta is the most high-pressure sales presentation by far in all of Mexico. They are very successful because they wear you down, promise you things they have no intention on delivering and twist words so you think you are getting something fantastic but you are not. Also, after being talked to for 5+ hours and trying to understand exactly what it is you are getting, your head hurts, you say yes and then you have hours of paperwork to sign. You may attempt to read it all until you realize you will be there until the next day. By now you have bonded with the sales person and he or she tells you anything they feel you need to hear so you will sign. Yes, you have a 5- day window to cancel. However, many people do not know and your sales staff may choose to keep in touch so they can calm your nerves over this 5-day period. They may even take you out to eat. Their sales tactices are highly sophisticated. There are many highly successful bullies in the world and Vidanta is...
Read moreThe Grand Mayan is a resort that could learn a lot from Tom Bodett, you know the guy that will leave the light on. The resort is nice but the pool needs work with tiles falling off, poor patch jobs and black mold in places.
Now don’t get me wrong the resort has some good features, the market was nice addition and the bars were good. The restaurants were pricey compared to the local market but room service reasonable.
My main complaint is the room. Long story short, the suites are two bedroom one has a bedroom with living area, bath and kitchen area. The other is a bedroom with a bathroom. Both are rented out together or separately. I was on a complementary stay and received the second bedroom. This was a nice looking, comfortable and large room but lacked even the basic amenities you would expect at a motel 6. No mini fridge, no microwave, no coffee pot, no extra blankets, no free broadband WiFi but, at least you could BUY a bottle of water if you were thirsty. Oh, and no mini bar, didn't they say this was a resort? They did have workout facilities and appeared to be very nice, spa, sauna, and hot tub but when we went down to try them out; we were told that was not part of our "membership" that would be extra cost. It was even extra for members; in fact almost everything was extra cost. For a moment I thought I found myself on a stage performance of Les Mis.
That was very disappointing and I brought all this up at our 90 minute presentation. Yes, it did actually lasted 4 hours but, this isn't my first rodeo, so I knew better than to expect a 90 minute presentation to only take 90 minutes. However, our 4 hour tour included breakfast, 2,000 Pesos and 10% off our bill at the end of our stay. We figured it was worth our time since there really is not a lot to do around the Resort anyway. Like any Timeshare or RTU "Right to Use" membership presentation they try to convince you that paying a ridiculous amount upfront for the right to pay again to stay at their property is somehow a great investment that you can pass down to your kids and maybe their kids. Did you catch the maybe part, that's because a foreigner can't actually own property in Mexico. When you "buy" in you are only getting a right to pay to stay for a defined period of time. That could be anywhere between 20 to 99 years. That doesn't mean that the RTU is without value but, it definitely is not a great investment either. We went through the presenter and two "supervisors" before they concluded they were wasting their time with us and moved on to other potential buyers. Initially our "buy in" was around $45,000 USD and continued to drop by close to half with each supervisor. Which they would have finance at about 10% interest. I almost choked on that. Needless to say we didn't buy in.
That being said they did tell me during the presentation that membership could be sold through a realtor using the MLS. That seemed surprising to me and when I asked them to show me an example of what someone was selling they forgot how to look something up on the computer. Bottom line a quick search of the internet and you can buy a membership for this group for around $6,000 USD or less on timeshare websites and I was told by a current member checking California Craigslist some people will practically give them away.
I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, this may be just what you are looking for.
As for me, my overall philosophy is if I have to make a decision right now or the deal is no longer valid, then it's not going to happen. I can almost always find a better deal with a little patience...
