I stayed one week in a double room at City Express. There was no microwave, refrigerator or coffee maker. However, we remained comfortable through our entire stay due to the breakfast area and drinks available in the cafeteria area. The breakfast is much more than what one might expect when seeing 'continental breakfast' advertised. Daily hot food, fruits and cheeses, and other fare was provided daily for about three hours - much longer than most hotels make their breakfast available. Everyone was very friendly though there was a language barrier. However, the staff communicated with us as best they could. The cooks were very sweet, offering things to us that were not on the breakfast bar and seeing if there was anything else we needed. ||||The concierge was bilingual so we searched for him each time we had questions or requests. He was very helpful and friendly, always trying his best to accommodate. We took a photo of this man and plan to post it as we feel Marriott owes him a big fat raise for all that he does above and beyond his position at the hotel... if I can figure out how to share the pic.||||The rates were affordable, about $90 per night, thus our entire stay was below $700. The rooms were clean and staff came by daily to tidy things up and see if there was anything needed. I had no issue with the beds; additional pillows were provided upon request. The common areas were clean; there were no 'suspicious activities or persons lurking. We felt very safe at the location and mingled some with other guests.||||If there is a shuttle, it may not have been available during our stay. However, we had no issue summoning Uber rides wherever we needed to go. (There are no Lyft rdeshare services in Tijuana, as far as I am aware.) We used Uber Eats for our evening meals when we did not venture out and had no issues with food left for us at...
Read moreI stayed one night in Tijuana over the Memorial day weekend.||I wanted something close to Plaza Rio. (This hotel is 2 blocks away from it).||Did not want to splurge on a hotel. I just wanted something clean and economical.||||The front desk was great.||Parking is included in the price and secured in an adjacent building.||There are 7 floors. We were located on the sixth floor. The view wasn't all that, but I wasn't expecting beautiful scenery.||||Nothing extraordinary about the rooms but again I wanted something economical, so expectations were not high.||The rooms were clean. ||Have a flat-screen tv with Spanish cable.||They have some outlets with USB cable slots for charging devices.||2 free water bottles, as well as soap, shampoo, and body lotion.||The water from the shower was warm/hot. (I usually don't comment on that, but I saw some reviews where others complained, so I thought I would add it.)||Also had a hairdryer, iron, and ironing board (we did not use any of them).||The room had double shades, so the room was nice and dark.||Free wifi worked great for internet surfing. (I did not watch movies, so no comment on that).||||A small complaint I have was that the people in the room above us on the 7th floor seemed to be having some sort of loud conversation because I could hear the muffled sounds in my room at 1 in the morning. Maybe it was just me, because my wife who usually is more sensitive to sound did not hear it, nor my parents who were in the adjacent room.||||Breakfast in the morning was really good. (Chilaquiles, nopalitos con papas (cactus with potatoes), scrambled eggs in red sauce and beans.||Offered cereal, fresh juices (orange and green juice), several pastries (donuts. danishes), coffee, and yogurt.||||Overall very happy with the experience.||Would definitely consider...
Read moreBeds were rock hard! Asked to be switched to a new room with better beds and they sent us to an even worse room with something that looked like blood on the desk. The whole atmosphere felt like a $29 a night motel but three times the cost. I don't speak very much Spanish and no one there spoke English so it made it very hard to work out any problems. There was ongoing construction inside and all around the building and it was very loud. We had to ask for more pillows which we basically a blanket wrapped up in a small pillow case. There were no ice buckets but the did have an ice machine. The breakfast was nothing special and had some kind of mystery meat inside the scrambled eggs. When we finally got to another room and checked it out and it was five times worse than the one we had and we told them we were cancelling our reservations they told us we still had to pay for that night even though we didn't get checked out of that room in time because we had to wait for someone else to check out and the room to be "cleaned". There were no amenities. There wasnt a coffee pot, microwave or refrigerator in the room. For your money you got a hard bed, thin blankets, and an ok bathroom if you were lucky enough to get one of the remodled rooms. Best thing about this room was the coffee shop down the street it was the best coffee shop in TJ! It was only a few blocks away from the Plaza Rio as well but for $2 USD you could get an Uber to drive you there from almost anywhere in the city. There were sirens every 5 minutes from the police which we noticed was mostly from traffic violations. I would not recommend this...
