I booked through Expedia, I get there and they have no rooms available. They said that there was a miscommunication between the booking sites and their system. That wasn’t the issue, though. The thing that bothered me the most is that the security guard in the front was rude when we arrived. He said they were full as we were entering the parking lot. I tried to explain that I had a reservation (as I thought he assumed we were trying to get a room right there and then). He said: “Even with your reservation, we have no rooms”, so I said: “Okay, so I will not be charged then, right?” And he just gestured that he didn’t know. That’s so unprofessional!!! If there was a booking error, I get it, life happens, but please assign someone to u care of customers in a professional and businesslike manner. Also, why do I have to be the one to cancel with Expedia? That’s what they suggested when I called them. Expedia of course wanted to only give me a 50% refund because it was the day of. I had to contact them to explain everything and get my 100% refund. If it was your system’s fault, shouldn’t you be the one who works to get us our refunds? This was really frustrating as I had to get a refund and try to find a new hotel at the same time. In addition, we drove a long way thinking we had a place to stay, but instead, we were treated miserably, and ended up having to stay in an overpriced hotel that did not meet our expectations because it was...
Read moreThis little place is a great secret.. it's within walking distance of great restaurants and bars.|I feel safer and its cleaner than the San Francisco California hotel/financial district which is where the Del Rio is located in Tijuana, hotel/financial district. Comparing apples to apples I was in both places within months of each other. I will never again choose S.F. for travel | The bellman Alonso is an incredible human being, he's a friendly caring knowledgeable person always ready to serve, he's the best concierge.. Yes he's the bellman but anything you want to know he's an encyclopedia of all things Tijuana... The on site restuarant is very good, small but adequate bar, new owners are great, although more limited with the covid restriction. I've made 2 trips into Mexico both ends of the Baja this year, it feels cleaner and safer than the local Walmart! | The Del Rio is not a high end luxury hotel, it is however a very clean comfortable and more than adequate hotel for travel purposes. We stay 5 to 7 nights. |I continually return to the Del Rio, probably for the Old Mexico charm and exceptional person service particularly Alonso but all the staff is helpful. I have called his cell when he was off duty, with his permission of course for information or choices. The pool is small but seldom if ever crowded. It appears many guests are local population but never uncomfortable for non locals, very important. We always...
Read moreMotel 6 equivalent quality in Tijuana. Spent a night there on a weekday. I pass by this hotel often when I'm in town and decided to give it a try. Pros: location and parking are good. Bed was comfortable, A/C blows cold, good water pressure. Cons: WIFI sucks, TV was a low resolution monitor with a hard to manage remote system. Since the WIFI was spotty the video image would freeze. Toilet seat was loose. Rooms are noisy. I could hear the cars zoom by, the guest above me (in heels) and my next door neighbors talking and other noises. No room safe either. Small pool and very little amenities. Again, Motel 6 equivalent.
Since I booked with my credit card points I was not eligible to receive or purchase a pass for preferential access to medical lane at the USA border crossing. Even though my equivalent points were equal to and even greater than their published room rate I was not able to convince the hotel manager to issue or sell me one. Bottom line, you need to book directly through them, no if's or but's.
A quick call to the bellman at the hotel where I have stayed before and voila, I bought a pass. So if you want a medical pass and are planning to stay there don't book through Expedia, Booking, etc. or you will be left scrambling for one.
Medical pass fiasco aside, I can only imagine how noisy this hotel can be on the weekend when its...
