TLD: Racial Profiling and Bad Food

I had an extremely negative experience here. I am a black women and i was racially profiled. I came to eat at this establishment today with a friend (who happens to look hispanic but is a biracial women) and the difference in treatment was astounding. I was treated like scum compared to the white tourists who were also at our table. After being seated and filling out our burrito order, i was aggressively told that ‘i had to pay now’ the bartender looked like he could barely tolerate me being there. I didn’t even receive a bill yet compared to other tables across from me. After paying i wasn’t even thanked and received another eye-roll, compared to the friend that i was with. My friend also ordered another drink and there was NO DEMAND of payment right away as soon as she ordered. In fact she had to ask when she could pay. This treatment was from the same bartender. I don’t appreciate being treated like a thief. Also noticing the clear difference in treatment and service to the white customers at this establishment was very upsetting. Please do better. Black vacationers of Cancun, i would encourage you to put your money where your mouth is and to please visit and support places that treat you with respect. Do not stand for this type of treatment.

FOOD REVIEW:

I ordered a chicken burrito (attached in the photos). The burrito had no taste and barely any chicken in it. I’ve had better burritos at a fast food chain in Canada then here.

The food was VERY GOOD, however, we waited over an hour to get our food and there weren't that many people when we placed the order. We had to ask the server (who was a little scattered, disorganized and didn't seem to do well under pressure) where our coconut water was after having waited 30 minutes for it. He was shocked that we didn't have it yet, which kind of made me laugh because the place seats outside only and isn't that big (3 tables with benches), so he was the only server bringing the drinks and food out- why he was shocked we didn't have it yet when he was the one in charge of bringing it out is beyond me. lol After waiting an hour for our food, we asked him how much longer. He asked what we had again and the face he gave us pretty much confirmed he forgot about us and covered it up by saying they were making it. He then brought us the wrong order! He had to ask us again what we ordered and we had to wait longer to get it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ By the time we finally got our order it was late and we had somewhere to be so we took it to go and they charged us for the to go box. By the time we finally got to eat the food we realized they gave us the wrong order again, but we were already gone from there. I will most likely give it another try tomorrow because the food, once we got it, was good; hopefully there will be a different server there. 🤞🏻

Update We went back the next day and the food was still VERY good, the service was MUCH faster, the order they brought us was actually correct, and the waiter knew what he was doing! WAY better experience than...

Adfter a string of disappointing meals in Cancun, we were starting to lose hope for finding a truly delicious dining experience. Thankfully, a fellow traveler on the bus recommended Surfin Burrito, and boy, are we glad they did! This place is a hidden gem that deserves all the praise. Let's start with the micheladas. Simply put, they were the best I've had in Cancun, hands down. Perfectly balanced and incredibly refreshing, they set the tone for an exceptional meal. For my main course, I opted for the catch of the day tempura. And "to die for" doesn't even begin to cover it. The fish was incredibly fresh, the tempura batter was light and crispy, and the accompanying sauce was the perfect complement. It was truly a culinary masterpiece. My wife chose the steak tacos, and she was equally impressed. The steak was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The tacos were generously filled and bursting with authentic Mexican flavors. The atmosphere at Surfin Burrito was relaxed and welcoming, and the service was outstanding. A special thank you to Dani, Sole, and Bren, who made sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor truly enhanced our dining experience. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious meal in Cancun, look no further than Surfin Burrito.
