We arrived in an Uber right to the parking lot at the Chocolate Hotel Suites after staying several nights at another hotel that was located far from the city center. The Chocolate Hotel Suites is situated on the hillside above the city center and afforded us a spectacular view of Guanajuato.
We were greeted warmly and offered a juggernaut of chock mezcal. Yum!
We were given a spacious, very clean, and comfortable suite. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant (located one flight of stairs down from the parking lot). We were pleased with the menu and the meals we both selected.
The staff was very courteous and helpful to arrange a city tour that picked us up (and for a small extra charge) returned us to the hotel even though my ability to communicate in Spanish is challenging. Several staff member were somewhat conversant in English.
The hotel hugs the mountain and is spread across several floors. Our room was on the same floor as the front desk, which is up one staircase from the parking lot. I think if stairs are a problem, travelers should go to another city in Mexico, because we had to traverse many stairways and hills everywhere we went in Guanajuato.
We would stay here again and remember the Chocolate Hotel Suites as a lovely spot for a...
Read moreThe hotel restroom lacks cleanliness. There is mold in the shower walls and throughout the restroom walls. The toilet bottom Was and clean. There is a cent of sewage in the restroom. When I asked the maid regarding deeper cleaning for the restroom she said that the hotel did not provide her with the necessary chemicals to clean.||||The pictures of this hotel that are posted online is not how the hotel looks at all it is more like a 2.0 hotel versus a 4.0 hotel. For example, the paint is old and various patched up holes on the walls. The furniture is old. My family and I slept in a bedroom that was close to the lobby and there was frequent noise in the morning the door is transparent not thick enough to block any noise so my family and I didn't really rest well. ||||While cleaning the hotel room, the maid lost one of my earrings that I left on the dresser. Although, it is fashion jewelry the hotel did not offer to reimburse me or even offered an apology for the loss.||||I purchased 12 tour tickets formy family and I one of my relatives became sick and I ask for reimbursement for 2 tickets out of the 12 tickets I purchased and the hotel argued that it was late notice and my money would not be reimbursed. I contacted the tour company myself and was reimbursed 60% of...
Read moreThe best things I can say are that the views are nice and the hotel is well located downtown and close to everything. However, the property is on a hillside and there are a LOT of stairs and no elevator. I would not recommend this hotel for the elderly, disabled or small children.||Feels more like a hostel than a botique hotel as suggested. The property is old and in need of updating and upgrading throughout. Our room was large but dingy and depressing. The balcony was so small only one person could stand on it at a time and there was no room for any furniture on which to sit and enjoy the view.||The included breakfast was a cup of weak coffee, a very small glass of watery orange juice and two slices of toasted white bread. One can order from the menu, which we did, but the prices are high and the food mediocre.||We checked out just a few minutes after the noon check out time and were told to pay 100 pesos penalty . We paid 1,900 pesos with tax for one night, which seems high considering the quality of the hotel and all that it lacks. While in Guanajuato we checked around and there are nicer places that are also well located and a better value.||We...
