I've read a lot of other reviews before we got there. When we went to check in they offered us a room with a double full bed, I told them we wanted a king so they gave us one. I also asked to see the room first and they allowed us to do that. If you're looking for luxury accommodations this is not the place for you. The room is very basic. This is a place just for you to sleep. However, we had a ground floor room and the view was amazing. I picked this place because I wanted a water View and got it in spades. There is generally always a wind on that side of the island so it stayed pretty cool. Be aware the ground floor rooms do not have hammocks only chairs. If you're going to stay at this hotel bring soap and shampoo. It is provided but not what you're used to. I gave the hotel three stars because storage was difficult. It would have been nice instead of a table they gave you a dresser with drawers to put your clothes away in. The AC also works and needs to be on every day because the rooms get very humid. There also needs to be proper towel racks or shelves in the bathroom to hang towels, clothes Etc. The two little hooks in the bathroom Aren't Enough. There should also be shelves in the bathroom for you to put your soap and shampoo. You cannot flush toilet paper in Mexico and the toilet paper is very thin so you should also bring wipes. Also bring a rain jacket because when it rains very hard you have to leave the hotel for food. I wouldn't eat in the room because of the ants, which is normal being in the tropics. The views and the breeze are what makes this hotel worth staying at, just understand for the price you are getting the bare minimum. You may also want to bring downloaded movies on a tablet unless you're fluent in Spanish. Also know if you are staying in a ground floor unit during the rainy season, it will sound like you're in a wind tunnel and it can get very loud when it rains. The bright side is that they seem to be making upgrades and repairs to the hotel. They were fixing the deck for the pool when we left and we also heard construction and some of the other rooms. The staff is also Pleasant, especially the cleaning staff. Don't bother calling if you have questions before you leave for your trip because no one ever answers the telephone. Another upside for this hotel is that you can pay by credit card, but you also have to pay in full when you get there, not before you leave like you're used to if you live...
Read moreAfter many, many visits to Isla Mujeres and stays in hotels as well as small casitas, our group of two couples opted for Rocamar because of its location on the malecon and its walkability to the beach, cafés, shops and restaurants we love.|We requested second floor rooms and were squared away quickly despite a midnight arrival thanks to Jesse. A very quick room change was effected by 1 pm the next day for our travelling companions who had requested a king bed, and I’d say it was a fabulous upgrade to Room 18! If you’ve stayed there you’ll know why. Many thanks, Alma.|A few thing took some getting used to but were quickly sorted. Bathrooms have glass walls but full privacy is ensured by pulling draperies over exposed areas. Stand far back as you adjust your shower temperature where you like it — hot water there is HOT.|Our housekeeper was Kandy, a sweet woman who left everything gleaming each day around 11 am in our case. She provided extra towels and even some “Cloro” so I could get a stain out of my new white tee. We made sure to tip her everyday, even her day off, for her pleasant demeanour and friendly conversation. It helps that my Spanish is good. |I’d say the hugest plus of Rocamar are its balcony views of the Caribbean Sea and the waves rolling in. Coffee and sunrises just naturally go together here. The sun moves to the southeast by lunchtime, so we would often spend our early afternoons by the small pool or the outdoor tables under shady canopies. The pool was clean and uncrowded; other guests were pleasant and respectful. Our single complaint was handled swiftly by the desk when a family had their small children in the courtyard running and shouting at 1 am.|A definite bonus for us was the hotel cat, Misha, a clean spayed female dilute calico. She befriended us and spent most nights on our bed sleeping. She meowed to go out and returned in the evenings after dinner! There may or may not have been tuna involved. :) I hope all guests are accepting of her if not completely mad about her as we are.|Look past a few dated things that could use paint. New pool umbrellas would be great but we know they take a beating with the constant onshore wind. We most assuredly will return to Rocamar for what we feel was an economical, safe and...
Read moreMy friend and I loved our stay at Rocamar Hotel. We stayed 4 nights in room 30 (on the 3rd floor).
PROS: The location is perfect, the view is unbeatable (especially the sunrise!), the beds were comfortable, the room felt very clean, the staff was very nice, we had no issue checking in 2 hours early and even checking out a little bit after noon, there are 2 water coolers to fill up your water bottles (one next to the lobby and the other on the second floor), we used the coffee machine in the room and found coffee and nestle vanilla creamer in the little common area next to the lobby. The air conditioning worked well. Our fridge wasn't working when we arrived, but we mentioned it to the lobby and to our delight, it was fixed when we returned.
CONS: The ceiling above the shower was leaking a tiny bit the first night we arrived. The lock on the patio door was not the most secure (but we still felt safe there regardless). They ran out of water in the coolers on the first night and it wasn't filled up until mid morning the next day. You could hear noises from outside, however it didn't bother us, we actually enjoyed it because that meant you could hear the waves crashing even with the patio door closed.
TIPS: Book directly on the hotel website for a cheaper rate, pay extra for the higher floor, walk 2 minutes down the malecon to go to the restaurant suenos de marfil, the food was amazing, the view is amazing and the waiters were so nice. We also enjoyed la Lomita which is right next door. There is a grocery store (Super Aki) Right across...
