Tiny Gecko Bar — Restaurant in Isla Mujeres

I have been wanting to try this place. The last few visits to the island. Finally got there today, and must say was disappointed with the food. We ordered the appetizer combo with four chicken wings, quesadillas and steak tacos. Tacos. The pineapple habanero chicken wings seemed to have been boiled or Pan cooked, very soft. Definitely not deep fried or in any way. Crispy. Served with what appeared to be jalapeno infused applesauce. We ate one of the four chicken wings.and just couldn't stomach eating the rest. Very disappointed. The steak tacos were fine, the quesadillas were just okay. I'd give it 3* for the food, five star for the location/view. We won't be back. Update*. I realize this is a little hole in the wall place specializing in drinks and music but they had really been advertising their dinners and menu on Facebook so I thought I would give them a try and book a reservation for nine of us. The person that took the reservation said we'll set up a real nice table outside on the malecon for us.(the reservation was made through the Facebook messenger app) So in three taxis we made our way to tiny gecko. The Tiny Gecko isn't tiny on personality, and is easily among the best bars on the island. Set far off of the tourist strip, this local dive is also perfect if you want an ocean view with your lunch or dinner without the chaos of the overpriced beach bars found elsewhere in Centro. You wouldn't think to look at it, but the food was easily in the top three meals we had in our week on Isla. Lobster tacos, their signature quesadilla, and all of our cocktails were absolutely killer in every way.
