What an experience! We stumbled upon this great restaurant by accident as they don’t have much signage up yet. They’d only been open about 3 weeks and still seem to be building some of it out. First off, the ambiance is amazing. It’s right on the water overlooking the ocean, and so it has amazing views but also is one of the few restaurants that gets a decent breeze. They did an incredible job decorating too! We ended sitting up on the roof deck (still a work in progress but already looks great). Martin, our server, was INCREDIBLE. Not only did he hustle like crazy up and down the stairs to bring us multiple rounds of drinks (and some free delicious margarita shots) and our food, but his passion for the restaurant was so clear! He chatted with us for a bit at the end of the meal as well and it was so great to learn about the history behind the restaurant, its name, and the building it’s in (they really should put that on the menu!). The drinks were also super tasty and they had some unique and interesting margarita flavors too - and the size of the drinks were HUGE! The dinner was delicious as well. It isn’t the biggest menu, but still has good variety. Portion sizes were solid. It also is one of the better priced places we’ve eaten at on the island! So if you’re looking for authentic Mexican food and atmosphere with charm at a good price this is your place. It’s off the beaten path (only a couple minutes walk from Playa Norte’s main strip of restaurants) so it’s not as touristy as a lot of other spots, and it’s right next door to Tiny Gecko - a great bar with good drinks for super cheap. So you can have a full night out right over there and get away from the main strip for a night....
Read moreWhat a wonderful place to spend our last night on Isla! Love this area of town that is close to a lot but not so hectic, and they are located right on the sea! They were celebrating their 1 year anniversary and had a mariachi band and lovely solo performer as well. There is both a downstairs and upstairs and they were able to squeeze us in upstairs despite being very busy. We enjoyed the Tikin Xic made with local fish rubbed with tangy achiote marinade and served with veggies and rice, and of course some cold cervezas and well-priced tequila from their expansive list, and the breeze from the sea and sound of the waves on the rocks.
I wish them much success and the dinner and time we spent there is a memory I will treasure. Muchas gracias to all the staff of Suenos de Marfil and we hope you have many more...
Read moreWe were at this wonderful place today, had nice cocktails and a good meal and usually I would give this location 5 stars, BUT ... when we asked for the bill our waiter started to argue about his tip. He first told us that the normal tip at the Restaurant is 10%, then later he changed to 15% to 30% and waited persistantly in front of our table to pay him more.
As an extra, he converted our tip from pesos into dollars thereby illustrating the worth of the guests at his table.
This restaurant has good food and good drinks, but it should change its waiter. This is not the way to treat your guests even if they are tourists and you expect them to visit the location only once.
I would not visit this...
