Hotel Tulipanes in Puerto Vallarta is a nice place to stay, on a budget. The staff is absolutely wonderful, very helpful... and willing to work with you on communication if your Spanish is not the greatest. Very clean, Air conditioning in the rooms, Wireless internet in the lobby and the pool is nice. Most of the guests appear to be Mexican residents down for a few days, and it can get a little loud on weekends in the evenings.. but things are usually quiet by 10:00pm or so. Everybody was very friendly. They serve a Mexican style Continental Breakfast buffet (fruit, usually Mango, Pineapple, and Papaya, with coffee, cookies and waffles available also) that is included with the room fees! It is just a couple of blocks to the beach, and that beautiful water that Puerto Vallarta is famous for.||||Hotel Tulipanes is in an excellent location! There is a nice Mercado (supermarket) two blocks away for food, drinks, and ATM access. There are several nice restaurants and taco stands very close by. I highly recommend Pepe's tacos (the Pastor tacos are excellent), Del Carboncito (gringa quesadillas), and the Rio Grande restaurant (Camerones Diabla). Mariscos el Jefe has wonderful cerviche (street stand). The Malecon (waterfront boardwalk) is close by, and well worth checking out. Stop by The Devils Ice Cream (Helados de Diablo) and get some tequila ice cream... it rocks!||||Hotel Tulipanes is a great place to stay, if you want to get a little more immersed in the Mexican culture (instead of some huge boring chain hotel), very inexpensive... and nicer than some of the huge all-inclusives!||||Ana, Rosanna, Pina (all of the Tulipanes family)......
Read moreThis really must be the best budget deal for a private room in downtown Puerto Vallarta: 175 mex for a private room with a basic breakfast and fan (shared bathroom)! What more can you ask for that price? I stayed here for a week and can't really complain anything as the price was less than a dorm bed in any hostel in Puerto Vallarta. ||Location is perfect as it is in middle of the PV downtown with plenty of local taco joints (5mex per taco!) nearby and beach was only 5 min walk. To the Malecon you walk in less than 10 minutes and to Zona rosa you walk in 20 minutes. If you dont feel like walking, you can jump to the local buses from the bus stop at next block (7,5mex per ride).||Oh yes, there is even a small swimming pool in this hotel 1st floor inner yard. The basic breakfast was waffles, fruits, coffee and yoghurt every morning from 8.30am until 10.30am.||The staff is really friendly mexican as most of the guests were too. On the weekends there might be some noice, so bring earplugs:)||High five for this budget option, but don't still expect any luxury. This is very mexican style.. Basic, but clean. That is all I needed. Im not sure if you can book those cheapest rooms online, so call or email them. These cheapest rooms with shared bathrooms are located on the 4th floow...
Read moreWe stopped in just before the dinner rush, so the staff had time to focus on us for most of the meal. It wasn't until the end of the meal that the place was jammed and we had to wait for service. Even with the wait at the end, all of the staff were attentive and very friendly. |We ate the spaghetti, flank steak, and 4 chilly mixed plate for our mains. The spaghetti was made with a fresh tomato sauce and tasted great. The flank steak could have used a darker sear but was cooked well and came with fresh veggies and mash. The 4 chilly mixed plate was the star of the show however, coming with juicy grilled chicken strips, chorizo sausage, and fork cuttable tender steak strips mixed with cactus, peppers and whole green onions, all covered in a melted cheese that didn't mess with the flavours. I can't see myself eating anything else at this restaurant. |Bill was up there on the pricey side, but we had 3 beer and 2 glasses of wine, and an incredibly expensive bottle of water that added to the total bill, so the food cost was very reasonable. |Dessert was a chocolate mousse cake and a "Lime Pay". Which looked like a type of cheesecake. Paired with a couple of coffees, the dessert was just "ok". I'd recommend going up the street for some...
