I was looking for Barbacoa on a Sunday and this place was everything I didn’t know I needed. There was a long wait list, expected, so I went down to The Coffee to get something until they called my name. The 5 stars is for the food!

Food: I find it cliche when ppl say, ā€œthis is the best taco I’ve ever had!!āœØā€, but these barbacoa tacos really do fit the profile. I got combination tacos with three different salsas, which had serious and delicious heat, along with charro beans and fresh blue corn tortillas. The barbacoa was so flavorful and balanced, not overly fatty. The fresa, guayaba, and chia seed aguafresca was delicious, not too sweet. I had the quesadilla appetizer with calabazas, nopales, and huitlacoche; they were great and don’t expect American style where cheese is oozing out of it, all of it is balanced. šŸ˜oh yeah, nopales salad was great.

Service: it was super busy on Sunday morning, so I was expecting slow service. I’m patient, but food took a while to come out. My server forgot a few things, but he was friendly and tried his best.

Overall impression: this restaurant is the real f*ckn deal for barbacoa, agua fresca, and probably everything else. It’s worth the wait if you’re...

Totally overrated!:-( Came here with high expectations after watching the show the actual video portrays a real artesanal barbacoa and here is not ! I asked for shoulder and flap meat they thought I would not notice I didn't get what I wanted ! The Consome was sour!! And is a very small cup they charge you 65 pesos each !! Usually in any barbacoa place the will fill your checking bowl at least once!! Same with coffee! No refills!! Then at the and they come to offer you deserts and you need to pay for a new Coffee? No way to do business!! If you are a tourist come and visit ones there is a band that plays huapangos live !! There is a Barbacoa stand around the corner that we missed just to come here and I'll bet that barbacoa was way better !! The service was great Liliana was our server she went over to please us and give us great service!! And the bus boy Franco !! Good people!! I haven't seen the total check but keep...

Found out about El Hidalguense on Netflix's Taco Chronicles. They live up to the hype! It was an amazing culinary experience. Our waiter gave excellent recommendations. We tried the Sopes Huastecos, Escamoles, Tacos de Barbacoa, Pulques de Fresa, GuanƔbano, y Guayaba. Everything was so authentic! The Barbacoa tacos came with blue corn tortillas and were even wrapped in a Maguey leaf that was still warm. I had no idea what to expect when it came to the pulque we had heard it's not to everyone's taste because of the texture. I would describe it as a yogurt-like drink that tastes similar to flavored kombucha. Good companion to the tacos and a must have local specialty!

*Being from Northern Mexico/United States my family is used to Barbacoa de Rez (Beef) but here they have Barbacoa de Cordero (Lamb). I'm not usually a fan but this was a...

Mexico City Taco Eats #3 Came because of Netflix's Taco Chronicles. Didn't expect this place to a fancy restaurant that it was. They didn't allow us to bring our drinks in (we had bought some agua frescas from a nearby food market on the way here). Food is on the pricy side but the portion is big. 240 pesos for 3 tacos filled with barbacoa or tripe (we got the red tripe). Meat was juicy and tender, but eating only one thing in a huge quantity is not really our thing, so we didn't enjoy the tacos here that much. The strawberry and guava agua was great though! Strongly recommend to come hungry (the meat can be too much if you are not on an empty stomach), as they also have a variety of other dishs on the menu.
