We just spent 7 nights at the Andaz Condesa and I can confidently say we do not want to stay anywhere else in Mexico City moving forward. The staff were excellent, always so friendly and helpful, and the cleaning staff did an amazing job keeping everything spotless.
The location is absolutely perfect. You can walk to almost everything, and we did about 99 percent of the time. If you need to go further, Ubers are very affordable. Since I booked through Chase Sapphire points, we were upgraded for free to a 10th-floor room, which had a lovely view. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was modern and spacious. The only odd detail was that the bathroom door opens directly into the toilet. If you are visiting during the rainy season like we did, you might notice there are not many places to hang wet jackets, swimsuits or clothing to dry.
The room itself had some great touches. The TV has a casting option so we were able to stream Netflix from our phones, which we used every night. The pool is on the smaller side, but perfect for spending a couple of hours relaxing, and the staff at Cabuya were attentive and brought us drinks poolside.
Breakfast at Portofino downstairs was included with my Chase package and we liked it. The staff there were so kind and welcoming every morning. The food was average, occasionally below average, but the selection was huge. They had an egg station, a quesadilla station, lots of breads, sausages, bacon, vegan options, yogurts, fresh fruits, juices, and more. My favorites every day were the oatmeal and the coconut milk chia pudding, which paired so well with the fresh fruit. The coffee, however, was not very good, so I recommend sticking with the juices. We did skip breakfast one day to eat at Mendl, which I highly recommend if you want to try something outside the hotel.
There were a few drawbacks. The rooms have very bright lights at night from various sources. The air conditioning has a green light, the fire escape signs had two bright flashing green lights, and the doorbell gave off a strong red, blue, or white glow. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring something to cover these or an eye mask. One night, there was very loud construction at 1 a.m. that I had to call and ask them to stop. We also experienced construction noise during the day while we were at the pool.
Despite these minor issues, I still rate the Andaz Condesa 5 out of 5. The positives far outweighed the negatives. I especially loved the matcha café downstairs, which had an incredible atmosphere for working or relaxing. While the drinks were below average in flavor, the vibe was truly a 10 out of 10.
This was our second time in Mexico City, and the Andaz Condesa has made such a strong impression that I do not see us staying anywhere else in the future. If you're okay with your hotel not having a bunch of awesome restaurants like Vegas (and you shouldn't - DF has so much good food, you shouldn't be wasting time eating at the hotel!)
I absolutely recommend this hotel and look forward to...
Read moreNew hotel in the heart of Condesa, close the transit and countless dining/shopping options. Branded as an upscale Andaz, but it definitely would be better classified as a Tommie (not worthy of being called an Andaz or Thompson). Unfortunately, the rooms are very cramped and poorly designed. There is a very wide support column where there should be a chair/coffee table/open space, between the bed and window. If the fire exit diagram is accurate, the only rooms without this "feature" are the 2 bed units, which would also be very tight as there was barely room for one (very short) king bed in our room.
Upon check-in, we were upgraded as a Globalist one level to high floor king room. Another 'delightful' feature resulting from the poor design is that the bed is only about a foot from the bathroom sink/vanity, and the only separation is a three-foot-wide mirror that does nothing to block the light and noise from the bathroom. On the subject of the bathroom, the WC had a very foul odor, presumably from the flooring material and possibly related to the fact that it was a recent construction??? We ended up needing to go shopping to purchase a diffuser to cover up this foul stench.
Unfortunately, the free minibar that is supposed to be a brand standard for Andaz was a complete joke here, as they were charging exhorbitant prices for the chocolate bars and potato chips (only a couple snack mix bags and sodas were available for free). The breakfast is available in the matcha bar next to the lobby. They have a decent menu of traditional breakfast items, as well as an expansive coffee/tea menu.
The highlight of this hotel is the rooftop pool/bar/restaurant. The pool is heated to the perfect temperature and offers very good panoramic views of the city, including the towers in Polanca and the historic district. The bar has a very good drink menu, and reasonable prices (everything was MXP 210). The food menu looked good, as well, but we did not get an opportunity to try it.
The location, a few blocks from the Chilpancingo metro station and across from the Campeche Metrobus stop, allows for easy access to the city without dealing with the horrible traffic.
Overall, the hotel is fine as a three star place in a good location, but it is currently horribly overpriced and not worth the premium. Hopefully when the Hyatt Regency Insurgentes finally opens, they will need to adjust their rates to a more reasonable level. I would definitely not consider paying more for this hotel than for the Mondrian, which is right next door and shares some of the...

Starting with the good: Great location, easy walk to many points of interest in Roma Norte; otherwise short and cheap Ubers everywhere Comfortable rooms... we generally had no issues with the bathroom; daily housekeeping was great; free bottled water; appreciated the steamer, robes and slippers. Easy to Chromecast to the TV however Wi-Fi was occasionally spotty. If booking with AmEx, the $100 credit is great - we used it at the rooftop restaurant (Cabuya) and found the food and drinks to be quite good and reasonably priced Additionally, if booking with AmEx, the free breakfast buffet was awesome - omelette/eggs station and plenty of other options available. Was super convenient.
I do have to note two points that I read in others' reviews but didn't think would be a problem for us. First was the noise, which I was most worried about... unfortunately the first room that we checked into faced onto the street, and the co-working space across the street was hosting some sort of function with a DJ that played nightclub music until at least 2 AM. Being from NYC, we are used to traffic noise but this sounded like a club was literally next-door. Luckily we were so tired that we fell asleep after awhile, and the front desk was able to move us into an interior move the next day, but this could be very problematic if it happens to coincide with your stay. Next was the smell of the bathroom which was like backed up sewage - I assumed this just had to do with how the toilet stall was built/plumbing, etc. but we noticed that the smell didn't exist at all in the new room we were assigned to. Again, I had noted these issues in others' reviews and did not let it hold me back from booking (nor do I regret booking) but think that others should be aware that these problems seem to still exist and could be a possibility.
Overall felt it was great for the price we paid and for the extra benefits we got by booking via...
