I stayed at the HotelMX Zocalo from Dec 21st, 2021 to Jan 5th, 2022. I am a solo male traveler. I liked the hotel. The facilities are just fine for what I paid for and the location that I found very convenient. The hotel is located in a dead-end alley so may be difficult to get your uber to come and pick you up. Is not that far from a street where they can wait and or drop you off. The alley often times will have a few homeless people loitering but to me was never a problem- they are sleeping and never felt like they came asking for money. Due to being right next door to a restaurant-the smell of food is present.
The staff was super friendly and very accommodating. The first night I arrived at 1 AM due to a 4-hour wait at the airport customs/immigration department-it was not just me that is the length of time it took for the line to move. I was put in room 101-perfectly comfortable room. The next morning I had a very early departure to the pyramids which is why I waited until getting back to request a change of room. I explained that although the current room was fine since I was going to be 2 weeks with them that I could use a slightly bigger room with a desk. The front desk was very kind and understood and she managed to move me to room 202. One flight of stairs up but the room was more spacious as this room had a very shallow desk and a slightly bigger bathroom with the faucet inside the bathroom. 101 had the faucet outside. The only suggestion I would make about these rooms is that would be beneficial to have mosquitos nets on the bathroom windows as they do come in if left open thru the day. Also the same for the window facing the inner court could use a mosquito net. Right after installing it I would suggest a quick cleaning up of the wall and ceiling and fresh paint to hide those reminders of successful mosquito hunts left from the previous guests.
The 5th floor is where you will find the breakfast room + the exercise room and public washroom and some guest rooms. Breakfast was served by the staff due to the current situation with COVID-19. You can only help yourself with coffee + Dish of Fruits + Glass of Juice/Milk which was individually plastic covered. The ladies will ask what did you want and they will fetch it for you and set you up. Breakfast is mainly the same throughout the days I stayed there are chilaquiles with egg (the difference is the eggs toppings) some days would be sausage, someday would be chorizo. They will ask you if you wish to have beans, cheese, and onions on your chilaquiles. You have access to this room at all hours of the day outside the breakfast times. as well the coffee machine is available to you. The coffee machine serves espressos and cafe lattes and hot water.
The cleaning staff did their work fine- I always found my room clean at the end of the day when I returned to my room. On a couple of occasions, they forgot to leave me the two complimentary bottles of water and a shower gel. It was not a big deal as you can as the reception and they make sure to provide you with what was missing.
The area is very convenient! There is a bar, a coffee shop, a juice bar, and a restaurant without even crossing the street. There is a taco place and two other cafes nearby just across the street. The closest metro station is Allende-although I did not use it due to the current situation with the omicron.
For the budget, I would stay here again. It was a very fair stay for what I paid. I would say as long you do not need a fridge, AC, and don't mind seeing homeless people and are not easily offended by smells- this is your place. You are literally around the corner from Francisco I Madero walking street and one block away from el Zocalo. I loved the neighborhood and the young upbeat style of the hotel. They even provide you with a whatsapp digital guide who will answer you tourist-related questions. They have multiple locations so...
Read moreAll of the positive revies led to make a reservation at this hotel. The location is decent, the room is small but functional, but the bed is the worst bed I have ever slept on in the 50+ countries I've visited! The bed is very hard and doesn't have any give to make for a good night's sleep. I'm shocked that no one else has mentioned this in their reviews. We tossed and turned all night long and couldn't sleep as it wasn't possible to get comfortable. I have a firm mattress at home but this is ULTRA-FIRM! If you don't like that kind of mattress, then you should seek lodging elsewhere. I suppose you get what you pay for.||||We were placed on the top floor where the breakfast area is. There were noisy people up there until nearly 11pm. The breakfast folk were at it early setting up for breakfast with music playing in the background. It just wasn't possible to get a good rest at this hotel. There are clearly better options. I won't be staying in anymore MX properties as I am assuming they utilize the same mattress.||||We showed up for breakfast and the eggs were depleted. It took a while before they replenished the eggs. Honestly, you would be better off going to the restaurant at the end of the alley for breakfast. There was a line out the door as we left, so it...
