My wife and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary in Mexico City and we stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. Let me say that this hotel is absolutely fabulous!!!
The location is in the heart of the Historic District and is literally right across the Presidential Palace and next to the Metro Cathedral. So many of the sites are within walking distance or within 30 minutes via Taxi or Uber. We went to the Chapultepec Castle and the National Anthropology Museum yesterday. It cost us around $12 USD one way via Uber. The Castle and the Musuem costs about $5 USD per person.
The rooms are very nice and clean. Some complain about the standard room being too small. For me and my wife, it was perfect. There is a large screen TV in the room if you want to watch the Spanish / Mexican programs. Bottle water is available free of charge. There is a refrigerator on each hall that has free chilled bottle water - replenished often. Beds are little soft but comfortable. The bathroom is fairly modern and the shower is large enough.
The all inclusive breakfast buffet is great. You get to sit up on the 6th floor balcony restaurant and see the main square as the sun rises. You can elect to eat the daily buffet and/or order eggs, omelet, etc. The staff is very attentive and friendly. And, please don't forget to tip.
The 24 hour Cafe Central is another great benefit. Except for some items and alcohol, anything you order is free of charge. You can get soup, salad, coffee, soft drinks, sandwiches. They will even make you a frappuccino or smoothie for you. If you want traditional authentic Mexican food, there are plenty of restaurants around including the 6th floor restaurant Balcon de Zocalo.
As for tours, the hotel offers a free walking tour which takes about 3 hours. It's a great way to know the sites in and around the historic district. We started from the Metropolitan Cathedral and ended up at the Palacio del Bellas Artes. Our tour guide Emiliano was great and spoke almost perfect English. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, his and explanations were spot on.
The hotel also arranged a tour for us. We went to Pyramids of Teotihuacan on Friday. It's an all day tour which starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends around 4:30 p.m. The van picked us up in front of the hotel. It costed us about $65 per person not including lunch. I'm sure that there are less expensive tours that you can book. However, I felt more secure having the hotel to make the arrangements for us. The prices of the tours are listed on the hotel's website.
Finally, what can we say about the staff. There are all very friendly, courteous, and helpful! Hats off to Eduardo, Mariana, and the many others who served us. Thank you for making our 32nd wedding anniversary so memorable. If we could give you a 6th...
Read moreI have said this before in other reviews: A hotel is not only the building (which in this case is more than fantastic), but the real heart and soul of any place is its people, every single person you meet in this Hotel is cute, with huge smiles and this incredible sense of service. No where else in all my trips and hotels around the world I experienced a stuff offering their service to go to the farmacy in the middle of the night to buy some thing for me because I wasn't feeling ok, I called the front desk to ask if they knew some farmacy open, normally the answer in any hotel is that they don't know, that I should use uber eats, or that they can't do nothing; when I called, the cute woman in the desk told me that they'll go right away to pick up what I needed, "Don Daniel" went to our room, took Screenshots of the product i needed, and ran to buy it. Some hotels make you feel alone, but here you feel cared and welcome, and "Don Daniel" is there for you in anything you need, really... ANYTHING!, I wish I could have his energy!!!. The rooms are cozy and nice, some of them really tiny but cute, i know they have amazing bigger suits in case you need more space, but, you're lucky if you find them available, this hotel is soo good that you'll find it completely booked all the time. The beds are fluffy and comfortable, with soft mattresses and delicious bedding, the decoration is elegant and offers you good quality amenities. Breakfast is faaaantastic, the restaurant is placed in the roof top, you'll be amazed with the beautiful Zócalo's view, the decoration is exquisite, they have a glass protected huge window to let you see all the process inside of the kitchen, is magical to see them working on pastries and tortillas you'll feel inspired and ready to explore; the food is delicious, you can enjoy the buffet or check the menue for great typical mexican especialties, whatever you choose will be an explosion of flavors in your mouth. The hotel has a 24 hour open bar in the first floor where you can have coffee, latte, beer, water, coke, and some other beverages, also some pastries and a couple of delicious sandwich options all included in your reservation... yes!! FREE! and also all the water you want!, in each floor you'll find, right out from the elevator, a cooler with water bottles served all the time, you can take as much as you need, and also many water bottles ready in your room, not only for tooth brusing, but also to keep your levels up, Mexico City is really dry and you need good water...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Zocalo Central Hotel from July 8-July 14. The hotel is well situated affording you walking access to many sites of interest. The restaurant has both awesome food and views. The licuados are especially delicious. On Sundays mornings through lunch, the restaurant does not allow you to order menu items. You are required to eat the buffet--we believe this is a drawback. Although the rooms are rather small, they are designed well, comfortable and ultimately did provide sufficient room for our clothes, etc. The hotel also provides bottled water and fresh apples daily to its customers. This is a nice touch and much appreciated and welcome service. Overall, the hotel staff is helpful and responsive. The hotel staff assisted us with making a couple of tour reservations as well as renting a vehicle for a planned trip to Los Altos de Jalisco. The was a glitch on that car rental due to Hertz, not the hotel staff. We did have a minor theft in our room and reported that theft to the hotel. The hotel promised they would get back with us but they never did. Also, on one night, the restaurant ran out of two dinner items that we had ordered. Also, one morning, we both ordered smoked salmon omelettes (we had ordered them previously--they are delicious) However, the salmon was not smoked this particular morning. The manager gave us a 10% discount for this particular breakfast (we also had reported to the manager the incident involving our dinner order that we had to change due to the restaurant running out of two particular items). Overall, the hotel is lovely and the staff very helpful. The only reason I did not give the hotel five stars is due to the minor theft and the lack of follow-up from the hotel; the fact that the restaurant ran out of particular dinner items; and the fact that on Sunday mornings they do no allow you to order menu items. Regardless, I highly recommend the Zocalo Central Hotel and would not have any concerns about returning there again. Also, Mexico City is a wonderful city. However, the traffic is absolutely horrific. Do not drive--take a taxi or Uber...
