My wife and I passed by here due to recommendations of friends, social media and food telly programs who claimed this place to be the best one to have ‘Tacos de Canasta’, so that, we decided to have a look and taste them.
The venue is located very close to the Zocalo Square along Madero Avenue, a quite bustling street, there you will see a small venue named ‘Tacos de Canasta Los Especiales’. Firstly, you need to pay what you would like to have, for this there is a line, each taco cost you $9 pesos and sodas $20. Once you have paid, then you request your tacos, either to go or to eat on place. if you will have your tacos on place, there are bars located along the wall with all necessary stuff to add to your tacos.
We do not know was this place are mentioned on the telly programmes claiming it one of the best places to eat ‘Tacos de Canasta’ when in our humble opinion is an inferior place where you can have this kind of tacos, indeed, we cannot named ‘Tacos de Canasta’ they do not follow the required preparation to be named like that.
We requested one taco of each one available, one of beans, one of potatoes, one of chicharrón and one of adobo.
The beans taco is not bad but is missing in flavour. The potatoes taco is missing in onion. The chicharrón one had a rare taste. The adobo, the same, a peculiar taste which was not pleasant. And the sauce to add to your taco is not the traditional one, it is just guacamole.
In summary, if you are a tourist looking for some real tacos, this is a tourist’s trap, there are better places to taste real ‘Tacos de Canasta’, do not waste your time here and do not take with you a bad memory.
If you are a local, just like us, and curiosity calls you to taste the tacos of this place, do it under your own risk, surely you have tasted better tacos...
Read moreHorrible service!! My sister, dad and I are currently in town on vacation and on our way back we opted for some tacos. The name looked inviting and sounded delish unfortunately that was not the case. As I stated the service was horrible and that was from every person we encounter behind the table serving. As we asked for what we would like their face expression said it all. They even went as far as looking away and talking to their coworker ignoring us and believe me it wasn't to tell them what we would like because I'm Hispanic amd obviously speak well Spanish. Then as my dad asked for one taco of each small selection they offered the next guy tossed 4 of one kind which was beans. the tacimos did not look tasty and when we decided to still give it a try I was done. I seriously just took one bite of my 2 that I ordered and I was done. Oh let me not forget to mention that when all of a sudden they needed to move the long table they have where you order they didn't even say oh excuse us be careful we need to move the table. I had to quickly grab my phone amd purse and my dad almost for run over by it amd I quickly pushed my sister back. I'm not the type to bad mouth a place but I was so disappointed I had to give you guys a heads up go else where to spend your money. There are so many great places around that treat you so nice. To the crew here you guys should really up your customer service game specially with so many...
Read moreThese are tacos de canasta. We were visiting from Illinois, came across this place and decided to give it a chance since the place was full. There was a special 5 tacos for $65 pesos, so we got 2 batches. Very good tacos, we enjoyed the chicharon adobodo better than the rest, the potatoes and frijoles ones were plain. There's an unlimited supply of free topping like guacamole, carrot/jalapeño in vinegar, salad, etc. I gave it 4 stars but really wanted to give it 3 stars for the service. I get there busy, but they really need to slow down and listen to whats being ordered snd not get frustrated, we had to correct the guy like 3 times because he kept giving us the wrong tacos, like giving us what he wanted us to have and not what's being ordered, there was no one else behind us, we were last but he was still rushing smh and for as busy and packed as this place gets they really need to add more seating with chairs. No one wants to stand up eating after walking all day. The little chairs they have, you can not even move, they are chained in place. Anyhow, it was good for the price and experience to try the famous taco from a basket is all that matters. I tried all the tacos, I personally recommend the chicharon adobabo tacos, I didn't care for the rest after i tried the adobodo ones lol. If you can't finish all your tacos, they will wrap it up for you to go, make sure you ask them to put in a plastic bag,...
