Much of the description of this hotel on booking websites is FRAUDULENT. WHAT'S TRUE: The hotel is located close to the Zocalo. The rooftop terrace is lovely, although seating is limited -- only one lounge chair and 3 stools. They offer free bottled water, coffee, and cookies (cookies were awful). WiFi is good. They have free parking. You get a small private room with a private bath for the price of a hostel bed.||||WHAT'S FRAUDULENT: The hotel description lists family rooms, a TV lounge, restaurant, snack bar, beach umbrellas, board games, DVDs, puzzles, outdoor picnic area, concierge, tour desk, and English-speaking staff. They have NONE of these things.||||When I questioned the front desk staff about this and showed them the listing, they appeared surprised and said they didn't know why the description said that. The info about having a restaurant and snack bar has subsequently been removed (perhaps in response to my complaint?), but the other amenities are still listed even though they do not exist.||||The largest room is only 97 sq ft (9 sq meters) with 2 beds, hardly a "family room." The other rooms are 75 sq ft (7 sq meters) and 86 sq ft (8 sq meters). IMO none of these are "spacious" or "huge" even though a few reviewers have described them as such. Moreover, the rooms do not have a fan or air conditioner, even though it was 93 degrees outside (34C). ||||There was a window in my room, but it didn't have a screen. I had to keep it open because with no fan or air conditioner, the room was suffocatingly hot. Mosquitos entered through the open window and bit me throughout the night. There was also a plastic mattress cover on the bed, which made it even hotter and more uncomfortable. To top it off, my room was on the ground floor, and a nearby bar blasted music until 2 AM. Between the heat, noise, plastic sheets, and mosquitos, I barely slept two hours.||||The entrance, lobby, and hallways of the hotel are dimly lit and uninviting. The room is dimly lit as well, with only a small round ceiling light, no bedside lamps. No TV either. Hot water in the showers is on a 10-minute timer, so plan accordingly.||||I had booked 4 nights, but immediately canceled 3 of them once I saw the hotel. If I hadn't been so exhausted from traveling all day, I wouldn't have stayed there at all. As it was, I checked out at 7:30 AM the next morning, never to return. ||||I'm a budget traveler, so I'm used to cheap hotels. I wasn't expecting luxury. However, this was one of the most disappointing places I've ever stayed. If all you need is a place to shower and lay your head, you might like it here. Otherwise, I don't...
Read moreOwner wanted 1000 peso for damage I did not cause!! Rooms are basic and old.||||-We stayed here in Feb 2023 for 3 nights. We returned from a day trip and were told to leave by staff using google translate. We can't speak Spanish so we left after a 5 min conversation assuming they had overbooked. 1 hr later I received an email demanding money for damage. I was shocked and messaged the owner who accused me with no proof of causing incense damage to the wall other than to his knowledge the room was "perfect" before! ||||SUMMARY||1. The owner wrongfully accused me of causing incense damage to the walls without proof. (If he replies he has proof, he is a literal liar.)||2. The owner showed poor communication and management letting his staff use google translate to explain a very serious accusation. Instead of clarifying the issue himself, he emailed a demand for money AFTER we left. ||3. I was hoping this was a misunderstanding but despite telling the owner that I did not cause this damage nor do we smoke or use incense, he called me a liar and said I had "mental problems." He wrote the mental problems on a public review and deleted it afterwards (I have a screenshot as I was so appalled with this response). Completely...
Read moreI just completed a 7 night stay and have sooo much to say. My room was in the back so i had zero street noise. The room was very large and clean. I usually shower before going to dinner and never had any issue with hot water. Since i was there for 7 nights i purchased a small fan. I like the white noise and the fan made it very comfortable. The location is perfect and price is equally great. They make pots of fresh coffee all day which is an added bonus. I also enjoyed the view from the rooftop terrace. I had daily interaction with many of the staff and every single time they were great. They would ask if i needed anything including a fresh bath towel. Im a motocycle traveler to the secure parking made this a perfect stay. This is an amazing hostal and i look forward to staying here when i return to Oaxaca....
