Best Al Pastor tacos & Posole in Oaxaca! Service is fast, attentive, and friendly. Do not walk by and miss this place, like I almost did!! From the street this little restaurant looks like a small taco stand. You can see the Al Pastor stacked in a cone-like shape, and roasting on a slow-turning vertical rotisserie. My husband, meat-loving man that he is, discovered this place late one evening when he got the munchies for tacos after a long day of travel. It was convenient, located directly across the street from our hotel. We both love Al Pastor and I love thinly sliced shawarma style meat, so we had to check it out together. Once you walk in you can see there is a good sized sit-down style restaurant with modest tables and chairs where you can relax, eat your food and enjoy a beer while watching a futbol game. We both tried the posole and were hooked! We came back two more times for pasole, tacos & beer and even brought our entire travel entourage for a nice little dinner. Everyone enjoyed the food. Beer selection is perfect. They had Modelo Negra, and Pacifico. They also serve the Mexican Coke in the glass bottles, if you dont like beer. Can't wait...
Read moreThis is a big restaurant with an extensive menu of Mexican food. Tacos, quesadillas, burritas, and all that you can imagine in many different flavors. It combines the authenticity and flavors of street food, with the comfort of going to a restaurant.
The food is absolutely delicious. I strongly recommend anything costilla-flavored. This certainly ranks among the best tacos we had in Mexico, and we have a pretty strong list. There are many different sauces as well, all of them superb, especially the avocado one.
Unfortunately, the service was not good. It was extremely slow. We had to wait for around 10 minutes for the waiter to bring us the menus, then the tacos took 20 minutes more after that, and another long wait for paying. Considering the nature of the food, we expected a much faster service. We wanted some quick tacos and had to sit for about an hour in a restaurant for that.
I still strongly recommend this place, especially if you want to sit and relax a bit. It gets hot in there as it is not well ventilated, but it is comfortable, has nice bathrooms, and again, the food...
Read moreI mostly consume chicken in one form or another… so I tend to struggle a bit in Oaxaca where we visit frequently because pork and beef are the staple meats.
This trip, I stumbled across Tacos Roy by accident with my wife and daughter as we were walking about Oaxaca after doing some sightseeing and heading back to the zócalo, where most tourists end up.
We stumbled by this tiny little restaurant and the aroma of deliciousness oozed out of the building, into the surrounding streets. We thought to ourselves, what do we have to lose?
Long story short, their chicken was amazing and my wife really enjoyed her vegetarian tacos. I ended up eating five and taking a dozen back to the hotel for my wife’s family who are natives to Oaxaca.
If you’re in the area and you want some really good tacos… stop looking! You’ve found it!
FYI I make tacos for a living at my own restaurant… I know a thing or two about tacos!...
