Los Arrecifes is like a little piece of paradise right on the beach. This quiet and chill place is special mainly because of its incredibly relaxing atmosphere and the wonderful people who work there. Gabriel, the hotel manager, was extremely helpful and accommodating in every way. He assisted us with purchasing bus tickets and everything else when our flight was canceled. In an industry where hospitality is the foundation, Gabriel is undoubtedly a role model for everyone. The hotel is located right on the beach and is surrounded by lively beach clubs, but most of the time, the sound of the ocean drowns out the music. On some nights (not every night), there is loud music from the nightclub across the street until 1:00 AM, but with earplugs and the soothing hum of the air conditioner, we slept very peacefully. We stayed in a more affordable room with a partial sea view, which was spacious enough for two people with plenty of storage space. The room had a large ceiling fan, the air conditioning worked flawlessly, and there was also a mini-fridge. Additionally, bathrobes, a hairdryer, and all other essentials were provided. Large beach towels were replaced as often as needed. Breakfast was included in the price and is definitely worth it if you're used to having a hearty morning meal—the quality matches the price. It’s not a buffet, but you can order from the breakfast menu, which includes eggs, fruit, yogurt, muesli, pastries, fresh juice, coffee, and tea. The hotel also offers food and drinks throughout the day with average pricining for the beach area. The hotel is located in the Tulum Beach area, ideal for long walks on the beach. In the evenings, there are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. Right across the street is GoMart, which offers a great selection of food and drinks, including empanadas, pizzas, pastries, coffee, beer, wine, and fresh groceries. Several pharmacies are also nearby. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel if you love a peaceful atmosphere and enjoy life...
Read moreThis hotel was beyond lovely. The rooms are beautiful and full of thoughtful details. Comfortable king size beds, amazing shower, fridge, lovely towels and beach towels, lots of space to hang and put things. The view is spectacular, and the design of the huge windows means you wake up to the view every morning. Incredibly generous breakfast and lovely staff. We ran into one issue, but the staff were understanding and we came to an agreement on how to solve it. The common areas are also very prettily designed with lovely plants and flowers everywhere. It is luxury to sit and eat on the patio.
Sargassum. Yes, Tulum and the rest of the Costa Maya has a huge problem with the nasty red seaweed through no fault of their own. Unfortunately it was quite bad in July 2019 so were not able to swim on the Tulum beach. But we still absolutely loved our stay and would go back again even with the seaweed. For starters we had the luxury of being virtually alone in the midst of this paradise. And secondly we had rented a car so were able to explore all the lovely things the coast has to offer: swimming in Akumal (seaweed is hardly noticeable there), swimming in the lagoons and cenotes, exploring the various ruins, and of course the Sian Kaan biosphere which is easily reachable from Tulum.
Hotel Arrecifes is in an excellent location, far enough from the crowds to be peaceful but close enough to walk to several restaurants (we recommend Juanita Diavola) and shops. Parking is free.
We were travelling with our 4 year old and the hotel was perfect for her - comfy and huge extra bed and very safe surroundings.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Tulum and recommend visiting regardless of the seaweed as there is so much else to...
Read morePLEASE READ Pros: beautiful property with a gorgeous beach not overrun with tourists and vendors. The staff was extremely friendly (especially Mariam at the front desk) the rooms were very spacious and clean wish fresh towels and water bottles provided daily, the complementary breakfast was lovely and the sweet dogs greeting you at arrival (must be the owner’s?) were a nice touch :) CONS: I’ve traveled to many tropical places and I understand that certain luxuries us Americans are used to aren’t available. HOWEVER, a hot shower is virtually non existent there. I literally took one shower the 5 days I was there. I had to travel a mile down the road to my friend’s hotel to wash my hair. I followed the instructions and only lukewarm water flowed out. A shame considering it was a beautiful bathroom with a rain shower head. It’s strange because the sink water came out boiling hot so be careful when washing your face. Also the double bed room is not ideal if you’re sharing it with a non significant other: the toilet room is barely frosted glass you can see directly through along with the shower. There’s only 4 drawers for clothing storage out of the massive room. The BIGGEST ISSUE: it’s next to a nightclub that blasts music all night. I know this is to be expected considering Tulum is an adult playground but I feel like the website should have a disclaimer about this. The walls were shaking and not even airpods and sleep meds can cancel out the noise. The doors were paper thin and didn’t feel safe. Also a real pain to close. All in all, your’e paying for the location and the stunning beach, but if you enjoy restful sleep and hot showers I would...
