I planned my 50th bday in Tulum along with 20 other friends. We booked the majority of the hotel. I spent a few months working with Fabiola. She was wonderful in helping plan an epic vacation. If you are traveling with a group, I suggest booking directly through the hotel to get a group rate. Fabiola helped reserve restaurants for our large party. She gave many great ideas of beautiful restaurants. A few required prepayments, in which we opted out on those locations. We noted for next time to split our group in half, as many restaurants had a hard time serving a group of our size. Half our table would finish their meals before the other half received theirs. Would have been better just to split tables. Upon our arrival to our room was a bottle of wine with a nice welcome note. This was a fun bday surprise and nice start to the trip! Thanks Fabiloa! There’s many fun things to do in Tulum. I recommend renting bikes to explore the main street. The hotel does have bikes on hand, just not guaranteed to be available. Lots of fun bars and restaurants to explore! The service was great at the hotel. We all enjoyed our daily breakfast overlooking the beach. The food was excellent. Be sure to check your bill each day, as sometimes we had some language barrier that caused some additional fees on our bills. I’m sure if we asked management, it would have been taken care of. We had our birthday dinner at the hotel. Fabiola had a surprise birthday cake brought in after dinner. It was a great addition to a wonderful celebration! We had other activities set up outside the resort such as a golf day, 1/2 day trip to the Cenotes, and day on a catamaran. All transportation was taken care of through Fabiloa and charged to each room. The beach was beautiful and the seaweed was kept at bay. The cabanas were comfortable and service for food and drinks was readily available. We lived in Chicago, and currently live in Park City, Utah. Tulum craft cocktail prices surpass both locations. With that said, my group discovered a beautiful liquor store directly across the street from the hotel. It has everything you need. But do note, you are not allowed to bring outside beverages to the cabanas…that was greatly enforced. Overall my group had a wonderful experience! I would definitely recommend...
Read moreHad such an exceptional stay at Maxanab (Ma-shah-nab). From the time of booking until we left, everything was just phenomenal.
As soon as our booking was confirmed the Hotel then reached out if we needed assistance with anything such as with transportation and pickup from airport. Checking in was quick and communication was great with front desk and restaurant through watsapp. Our room was beautiful and relaxing with a private plunge pool and was turned down everyday. Every time we return to our room from a trip, we were so relaxed. The AC was much needed and worked well, we had fresh water and delicious cookies waiting for us.
Location is good. You can borrow their bikes and visit other resorts and restaurants/shops outside for an easy 10-20min ride or less. Their grounds were well kempt and had lush greenery. We wanted to skip the big chain hotels and wanted a chill tropical vibe so this worked perfect! The beachfront was beautiful but unfortunately it was seaweed season for July and we were not able to swim at the beach. I made sure to look for a hotel with a pool for this reason. The staff does clean after the seaweeds during low tides. The restaurant serves amazing food! Breakfast was already included and we get the best meals and fresh fruits everyday! The seafood especially were delicious especially their octopus and ceviche. Surprisingly one of the best burgers Ive had is here at Maxanab! There are so many good and wonderful things about this hotel that is hard to mention without having to write such a long review so its best to just go there and experience it yourself. The only very minor thing i would change is to have their hair dryer blow both hot and cold and not just cold air.
Before ending this review, a special shout out would be for their chef for all the wonderful meals we’ve had, Walter from the restaurant who was attentive and kind. And the front desk ladies, especially Dayanne and Valeria who were helpful and gave us wonderful recommendations about where to go and eat! Here at Maxanab, its pricey but you get what you pay for, an enjoyable, luxurious and wonderful experience! This hotel definitely made our trip to Tulum a...
Read moreI write this review somewhat conflicted as the hotel staff was incredible, the food was good and the room itself was clean and fit the “Tulum” vibe. However, if you are looking for a relaxing vacation this is NOT the right choice. The music onsite at the hotel is pretty chill, however there are multiple properties adjacent to the hotel that blast techno ALL day and ALL night. If you are looking for the “party Tulum vibe” this would be more your speed.
The beach is pretty with the exception of the mounds of seaweed that makes swimming almost impossible. Not only maneuvering around the mounds of seaweed on the beach to enter the water, but the mass amounts in the water itself. Again, not the hotels fault, but if you are looking for beautiful beach swimming, this is not the place. In addition, the beach is not private so there are vendors harassing you every five minutes from 9am to 6pm.
The rooms are pretty however the plunge pools do not have working filters and it looks as though the water has been sitting stagnant for the last year. Mine was in the shade 90% of the time (so was my patio) so even if it looked sanitary, it was virtually unusable as it’s not heated.
This review might be harsh, however I am traveling as a single woman and tried to contact the front desk /concierge in the early morning to no avail. My neighbors hosted a party on their patio till 6am and there was no one to contact. I can live through my last night of vacation with zero sleep to travel back cross country to my stressful job, however zero accessible security is some what frightening traveling alone (I was told there is security at entrance and on beach the following day).
Again, staff is lovely (although one employee did ask for a tip which is included in food and beverage), food is fantastic and concierge during the day is extremely responsive and accommodating, however this is NOT the place if you are looking for a relaxing vacation and are traveling alone. If you are looking for relaxing and safety, I would recommend the Jashita Hotel or the Hotel Esencia for the same price (which I now realized I drastically overpaid for -...
