A Magical Stay at Dar Sultan in Tangier
Dar Sultan was truly the heart of our stay in Tangier, and we cannot recommend it enough. While Tangier itself is stunning, this charming boutique hotel made our visit even more special, to the point where we didn’t want to leave.
The cozy, vibrant decor of Dar Sultan is mesmerizing. Every corner is uniquely adorned with beautiful Moroccan pieces, creating an authentic and captivating ambiance. Each room has its own personality, and we had the chance to explore other rooms during our stay—all equally stunning, colorful, and thoughtfully designed.
Our room, Sharaf Roof, was a dream come true. It featured a private terrace with a breathtaking sea view, making it the perfect spot to relax and soak in the beauty of Tangier. The location of the hotel is also ideal, situated close to a parking lot for those renting a car. It felt very safe and convenient.
Breakfast was an absolute highlight. It was included in our stay and was both delicious and heartwarming. Amal, who prepared the breakfast, treated us with such care and kindness—it felt like being looked after by a loving mom. I already miss her warmth! Ayoub, another wonderful member of the team, was a true gentleman, ensuring that everything was perfect and going out of his way to assist us. Nadia also treated us to an unforgettable Moroccan dish that was truly unique and authentic, something you won’t find anywhere else.
A big thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special. Dar Sultan is a gem, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tangier. It’s a place full of heart, charm, and beauty that you’ll...
Read moreRead moreWe stayed 4 nights in February 2024 at Dar Sultan, Old Medina, Tangier, having arrived from a 3 night stay in Chefchaouen “The Blue City” - 2 hours south and highly recommended.|Our room “Malabata” was on one of the upper floors and adjacent to the outdoor garden space which we enjoyed many times during our stay. Be aware this public area is immediately adjacent to Malabata front door and windows, so this could be an issue to consider in High Season, if fellow guests are enjoying late night drinks. It wasn’t an issue for us at all & it made what was a “compact” room feel much more spacious.|The Dar Sultan is a beautiful building and filled with many items of historic interest, but what makes it so special are the wonderful staff - absolutely first class and so welcoming…..nothing was too much trouble and if we are ever back in Tangier, that is where we’ll stay again. Be aware the staircases are narrow and steep, so if you have mobility issues, it may not be suitable for you. We are both in our late 60’s and no problems…..other than accepting the offer to bring our cases down for us on departure!|We were given many recommendations and if you are after a high quality dining experience (at reasonable prices) then try El Morocco Club, which is only 2 minutes away. That same establishment runs a cafe in the adjacent square during the day and that was equally excellent. For a lower cost Italian style meal, turn right out of the El Morocco Club and and a few hundred metres in front of you is a white building (with great views) serving the best pasta my partner says sh...
Dar Sultan is a lovely Riad. Very beautiful and full of Moroccan art, crafts, textiles and some other crazy things. Every corner is a new display. But - the stairs in there are very very steep. Anyone with walking difficulties will struggle. There is no life or rooms on the ground floor. If you think you will struggle, this is not for you. The rooms are very nice. The twin room was small and quite dark, so I ended up booking a second room because we didnt have enough room there was no floor space in the twin room and not much privacy for the bathroom. The double room had a lot more space and was more comfortable. And the bathroom was at the other end of the room rather than right next to the bed like in the twin room. We struggled with the locks on the doors every time we needed to get in, there was definitely a trick to it. The location is lovely with a lot of plants outside. The area is clean and within walking distance of some great restaurants. However like most buildings in a kasbah, there is a lot of street noise. I actually like it - I have Shazam to get the names of tracks people listened too. And I like hearing the kids in the street - until midnight even. If you are a light sleeper, take ear plugs. Breakfast is really good and served on the rooftop. Different things just kept coming up. And, some gluten free alternatives were also available. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. All were fluent in French and ai am supposing Arabic too. English wasn't great but you can get by. The staff were happy to help us arrange taxis or cars for tours. I...
