My friend and I were visiting Tangier and decided to have dinner at La Terraza de la Medina in the old city. We arrived around 6:00 PM and, although the restaurant was virtually empty, the doorman asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, but he allowed us in anyway.
The first floor was completely deserted, so we headed upstairs, hoping to enjoy the rooftop views of the medina and the sunset. Despite the abundance of empty tables, a staff member told us they were all reserved. We asked if we could sit at a different table, but another staff member reiterated that the entire second floor was fully booked. This was surprising, considering the restaurant was practically empty.
We were quite disappointed. If the second floor was indeed fully booked, we felt the staff should have informed us downstairs and suggested we dine on the first floor. This lack of communication, coupled with the fact that the restaurant was so empty, left us wondering if there was another reason we were being turned away. We couldn't help but question whether our Moroccan nationality played a role, or perhaps there was some unstated dress code or other rule we were unaware of.
Ultimately, we felt unwelcome and left without dining there. What we had hoped would be a pleasant evening enjoying our city ended up being a very negative experience. This was, unfortunately, one of the worst restaurant...
Read moreWell, how to put it ... Dining is La Terraza felt like opening a very nicely wrapped gift that - when you see what you get - seems to have been dented while being transported. The location is superb: the view on Tanger is really worth the visit, but you cannot eat views. We ordered starters that never came, and when the main course arrived, we did not bother to re-order the starters. That would have beaten the purpose of the starter. The food was good - really. My girlfriend had the salmon and spinach and really liked it. I had the veg tajine. Ok, little bland. You'd expect a little more, no? The staff was kind and busy, but it seemed that they were busy doing stuff that had little to do with running a restaurant. They - it is just a suggestion - could have tweaked the playlist, because the same song was in a loop, the whole time we were there. Cannot unhear it anymore. And, after we left Tanger and came back - our flight left from Tanger - and walked by La Terraza, the exact same song came blurting out of the speakers. Did we expect too much? I don't think so. Reading the promo talk on different sites - superb! go! not to miss! - led to higher expectations. Nonetheless,...
Read moreSad experience, I do not recommend it! I am allergic to milk and eggs and I am a vegetarian, therefore vegan. The vegan options at the restaurant are very limited, but they assured me that they would be able to accommodate me. I ordered the Moroccan salads and I could not eat them, they were very spicy, the bread was not vegan, but I was not warned beforehand, otherwise I would not have ordered the salads. The employee did not care, he could have found a solution so that I could eat them. I paid a lot and left hungry. I have eaten much better in much simpler restaurants. I was frustrated because it was my last meal in Morocco and until then my experiences had been great. I understand that my case is not the simplest, but they could have warned me that they would not be able to accommodate me satisfactorily and as I said, I have had great vegan meals in very simple restaurants, for a third of the price, I am sure with a little attention it would be possible to have a meal. It was the most expensive restaurant and unfortunately the worst in all of Morocco, I had a flight after and I could not eat...
