We arrived in Tangier on a Sunday at Midnight without reservations so we took a cab to a centrally located hotel along the main drag (Mohammed VI) and walked around and checked the rates and conditions at various Hotels along (and near) that road. Hotel Charf was the hands down winner!! It had A/C. It had an Elevator. The room had its own bathroom. It had a Free Breakfast. All for a reasonable rate. It was a very good hotel. The room was a good size. Everything worked. Actually, the TV didn't work, but once we didn't get a picture we turned it off and did other things. ||||The breakfast was served in the top floor restaurant. We also enjoyed a fine dinner in that restaurant, so you don't have to go wandering around figuring out where to eat (although we did that, too!!). ||||The Wi-fi worked as you were closer to the entry way of the room, and it worked in the lobby. That was good enough for us. ||||Any front desk personnel was friendly and helpful. Other guests in the hotel were all cool. ||||The Hotel is one block in from Mohammed VI, but the lot in front of it is empty so you have a view of the water. Maybe in a few years a building will obstruct its view, but that's years from now!! I'll note that you do have to go up a hill to get to Hotel Charf, so if that's an issue you have to think about it. But we were carrying luggage and we could do it, so it wasn't insurmountable. And compared to all of the prior Hotels we checked that didn't have A/C or Elevator or non-shared bathroom, it was a treat. ||||We were on the second floor (reception was floor zero) and noise wasn't a factor. It sounded like guys were getting into a discussion down the block at 4am one morning (there are discos & other businesses nearby) but what do you expect in a busy city? We've heard worse in NYC at that hour. And things quieted down just as quickly as they started up so that wasn't an issue. It's not as if Tangier would be quiet!!||||All good. I'd stay at this place again if I...
Read moreWorst hotel despite looking ok. We were supposed to have an early check in - pre-arranged because of an overnight train trip from Marrakech. The rooms were not available. We got our rooms at 3pm after being out for the day. There was one towel for 2 of us. One quilt despite having 2 single beds. I went to make a cup of tea and went to pour the boiling water into the cup. I nearly burnt myself as the cup had a hole at the bottom. Then the restaurant was located directly over our bedroom. A band was playing. I asked for the music to be turned down at 10 pm and they turned the music up instead. I asked to be relocated but they said they would get the music turned down. I came to bed and the music resumed just as loudly. I was told the music would stop at midnight but it is past midnight and it is still playing. I am told the restaurant is open until 2pm. I am on an Intrepid tour and the hotel know this and know we are leaving for an early morning bike ride and yet they have allocated us a room under the restaurant. They have said I can move to a hotel over the road but only I can move not my travel companion. I don't feel safe as a woman to agree to this given the treatment so far by the hotel. Intrepid please do not put your bike riders who you are asking to get up early in a hotel that has loud music playing and a restaurant open until 2 am...
Read moreHotel Charf is located up a fairly steep hill from the beachfront Avenue Mohammed VI above the Marina Bay Hotel in Tangier, Morocco.
It is an older hotel that is very quiet, and although there are ocean views from many of the simply-furnished rooms, it is a bit dated and isolated.
A sign says there is a restaurant on the top floor, but I cannot say I would ever want to eat there when so many other excellent restaurants exist.
The Hotel Charf charged someone I met in the lobby about 50 Euros (or about 500 Dirhams) for a single room which is, quite frankly, too much for this place.
While I was waiting in the reception area, not only was it quiet but there was someone laying flat on the floor praying, which was unexpected. You would have had to wait until he was finished to ask him to do anything or pay your bill.
If you want a hotel with a view of the beach and Spain in the distance, this might be the place. Frankly, however, I would definitely look elsewhere in the city for a more welcoming and comfortable...
