Anji Chinese Restaurant – Come for the Food, Stay Despite the Décor

Stepping into Anji Chinese Restaurant is a bit like stepping into a time capsule — not the glamorous kind, more the “early 90s takeaway” kind. The décor has seen better decades, the tables have a faint tackiness to them, and the overall atmosphere whispers, “I was once beautiful… but that was three owners ago.” You quickly find yourself sitting down, wondering if you’ve made a terrible mistake, and resisting the urge to touch your face for fear of sampling the ghost of meals past.

But here’s the plot twist: the service is quick, efficient, and refreshingly no-nonsense. You ask, they deliver. Mild? Mild. Spicy? Spicy. Extra spicy? Well… prepare for battle. And if you want dishes in a certain order, they’ll make it happen without so much as a raised eyebrow.

Then the food arrives — and suddenly, the sticky table becomes invisible. Plates land in front of you looking like works of art, aromas curling into the air like edible sirens. You take a bite and… WOW. This is hands-down some of the best Chinese food I’ve had. And when I say “spicy,” I mean it — none of that watered-down, barely-warm chili nonsense you get in England. Here, “extra spicy” means they’re actively testing the limits of human endurance.

If you care more about flavour than feng shui, this place is a winner. We loved it so much, we came back for round two during our seven-day stay in Tangier. And yes, the tables were still sticky — but by then, we were too busy...

I don't quite get some of the negative reviews related to food, but then again mistakes can happen, and people are entitled to their opinion. My experience at this establishment was one I won't soon forget. I haven't eaten so good in Morocco in quite some time! Everything was very flavorful, and at a relatively fair price.

My main criticism would be the general atmosphere, which seems to be a recurring thing with Chinese-owned Chinese restaurants in Morocco: the space doesn't really look like much, it's very bland and almost seems uninviting.

I wish more thought was put into the interior design and the mood (be it through ambient music or anything else), but this place more than makes up for it...

I really enjoyed the food; it was delicious. The service was impeccable, and the staff was very friendly. I would just like to highlight a few points for improvement:

I noticed that the bin where empty dishes are collected had some stains. It would be better to replace it, as it raises concerns about kitchen hygiene. A fire extinguisher was placed at a very high level, whereas it should not exceed 1.20 meters in height. Regarding the food, I had ordered two dishes. When I finished the first one, the second had become cold. I suggest not serving everything at once or asking the customer for...

Dumplings were delicious, although two were slightly salty for my taste. I didn't like Kung Pao chicken, but all the elements are there, maybe it's just me. The service is the worst, I had to go hunt down the waiter to take out the rest of my food and get the check, but it's not his fault they're understaffed he seems like a decent guy. The atmosphere, the furniture, the plates, bowls, etc were extremely basic. They're similar to what you find at local caterers. I've always passed by this place and wanted to visit, I recommend going there once if that would satisfy your curiosity, but not to tourists
