Alma Kitchen and Cafe in Tanger proved to be an absolute gem, offering a culinary adventure that delighted my taste buds and left me craving for more. The combination of delectable food, warm ambiance, and exceptional service, particularly from Mustapha and Amin, made it an experience worth cherishing.
To begin our gastronomic journey, my friend and I started with the Spicy Potatoes and Suggestion 65 (Chicken Spring Rolls) as appetizers. The Spicy Potatoes were a delightful fusion of flavors, with a perfect balance of spice and crispiness. The Suggestion 65 Spring Rolls were a revelation, with tender chicken wrapped in a crispy shell, bursting with mouthwatering flavors. The attention to detail and the quality of ingredients were evident in every bite.
Moving on to the main course, we opted for the Risotto and Sandwich Rossbeef. The Risotto was a creamy delight, expertly prepared with a velvety texture and a harmonious blend of flavors. The Arborio rice cooked to perfection, combined with the rich Parmesan cheese and tender vegetables, created a symphony of taste. The Sandwich Rossbeef was a true delight for meat lovers. The succulent, thinly sliced roast beef was complemented by fresh vegetables and a savory sauce, all enclosed in a perfectly toasted bun. It was a satisfying and flavorsome choice that left us wanting more.
For our choice of beverages, we decided to try the Beet Lover and Iced Matcha Latte. The Beet Lover was a refreshing and vibrant concoction, balancing the earthy sweetness of beets with a hint of citrus. The Iced Matcha Latte was a perfect blend of velvety matcha and creamy milk, creating a refreshing and energizing drink that paired wonderfully with our meal.
To conclude our delightful feast, we savored the Brochettes Poulet and Tarte du Jour. The Brochettes Poulet featured tender and perfectly grilled chicken skewers, infused with aromatic herbs and spices. The Tarte du Jour was a heavenly treat, showcasing the chef's creativity with a daily selection of fresh, seasonal ingredients. Each bite was a burst of flavors and textures, leaving us thoroughly satisfied.
Throughout our dining experience, Mustapha and Amin provided impeccable service and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. Their warm and friendly demeanor, combined with their extensive knowledge of the menu, elevated our experience to new heights.
In summary, Alma Kitchen and Cafe in Tanger is a culinary haven that impresses on all fronts. The Spicy Potatoes, Suggestion 65, Risotto, Sandwich Rossbeef, Brochettes Poulet, Tarte du Jour, and the Beet Lover and Iced Matcha Latte drinks were all exceptional in taste and presentation. The inviting ambiance and the outstanding service by Mustapha and Amin added an extra touch of excellence to our visit.

Read moreAlma, where to start..... I absolutely love so many things about this wonderful reprieve from the typical restaurants/cafes found in Tangier. Let's start with location. Other than the fact that it is minutes from my apartment (Yay!!!!), it is located in a wonderful, open plaza in the center of town. Once inside you are warmly greeted by the staff (the owners are also present on a daily basis), and seated on chairs handcrafted by Moroccan artisans. In fact the proprietors, husband and wife team Lamiae and Seif, had all the furniture made by craftsmen and even handmade some of the lighting fixtures themselves. The space is light, airy and simple and the very embodiment of the food that is served here. ( If you're looking for somewhere to eat unimaginative food displayed on a a laminated menu with photo-shopped images you're in the wrong place). The food here reflects an appreciation of a meal that is made with wholesome ingredients with a complexity of flavors. For the sandwich lover, there is plenty of delicious options. I'm gluten intolerant (which is no easy feat in Morocco!), but there are plenty of mouth-watering options for me to choose from. The Thai beef salad with its mix of coriander and spicy dressing are a favorite as well as the addictive dips: carrot and walnut, the beetroot hummus, and herbs cream (which is made with a cilantro base). Since I can't have the freshly baked bread, I usually order pan roasted cauliflowers or small roasted potatoes to dip into the spreads. The Levantine Aubergine eggplant made with harissa oil and pomegranate is a MUST as well. The coffee here is delicious, made by a skilled barista, and the beans are from a speciality coffee purveyor in Marrakech. The chai here is freshly made with a delightful mix of spices. If you have room for dessert be sure to try the super moist and yummy orange and almond cake...
Read morei ordered fish tacos here, and typically i’m okay with a little bit of parsley / cilantro, but it was a parsley taco essentially - with a parsley pesto (not sauce), parsley on top, and parsley coated fennel. to be nice, i tried two bites and instantly tasted as if i ate soap, so we kindly asked the server to return it since it was entirely inedible for me. they said they would take it back to remove the sauce, and i promise you they took the plate and brought it back exactly the same. i ended up eating some of my mother’s plate, which was a thai chicken ciabatta sandwich. we asked the server again if there’s anything we could do, since i didn’t eat another bite of the tacos, and the server said “not to worry, you can replace the dish with something else”, so i opted for the crab risotto to go. they cleared the table of everything except of the fish tacos (which i had sent back), probably to prove a point or something. eventually when it was time to pay the check, the manager / owner attempted to force us to pay for the fish tacos we sent back and the server offered to swap for another dish. eventually he took it off, with ample hesitation, after he saw we were frustrated with the lack of communication between the staff and very mediocre service.
p.s. my mother speaks amazing darija arabic, so there was nothing lost in...
