We arrived in Chefchaouen around 9 p.m., exhausted from the long day and the difficult road, we had reserved a room here online, but the owner advised us to cancel the reservation and make it directly with her over the phone in order to get a better price. We were looking for someone to check us in when we arrived, but the reception desk and hall were both empty until a teenage boy who was high from whatever drug he was smoking came from outside and introduced himself as the receptionist. ||We told him we had made a reservation over the phone with a woman who introduced herself as the owner, and he asked us to follow him to the first floor, where we were surprised to learn that the room she gave us was different and smaller than what we had booked online, and even more surprised to learn that the price was even higher than what we had previously agreed on. We called her to get an explanation, but she refused to listen and told us to either take it or leave it, we later learned that the owner is staying on the hotel's top floor and didn't even bother coming down to explain what she did. After some time on the phone, she informed us that there was a "suite" on the ground floor that we could book for the same price as before, minus breakfast. We agreed to take that one because we were tired and didn't have the energy to look elsewhere because it was late and we just wanted to rest. ||After checking in, we went to our room, which was freezing with no AC and only a small heater meant to heat small areas such as the bathroom. We turned it on, but it didn't work.||The room we were given overlooked the backyard of a house surrounded by Chefchaouen's small river. ||We had just finished dinner and were ready to sleep. My friend was sleeping, and as I set my alarm for the next day, I noticed a shadow of a person entering from the balcony; I couldn't believe what I saw, despite the room's light is still turned on. I couldn't move because I was so shocked and dismayed by what was going on that I couldn't move when I saw the person searching our bags and grabbing money from the table. I yelled at him, and he jumped into the balcony as my friend awoke. We followed him, looking down on him hanging from the fence of the house next door, yelling at him but he had cold blood as he slowly went down the fence and crossed the river to the other side. We called the lady in our state of shock and fear, and her first response was that she didn't believe us!!! We insisted on her coming down, but she insisted on calling the cops first. After about 30 minutes, two police officers arrived with her, we explained what had happened, and they asked us to accompany them to the police station to file a report. The lady claims the hotel has security cameras, but when the cops ask to see the footage, she claims they aren't working!!! We returned to the hotel after three hours at the police station, refusing to stay there, but because we were too tired and had a long road ahead of us to drive without sleep, she gave us another room, which miraculously became vacant. We couldn't sleep because of so many scenarios of what could have gone wrong and how awful and scary it has been running through our heads. We left the hotel and attempted to meet the lady (who didn't bother to check on us or ask if we needed anything), but we were told she wasn't in the building because she was preparing the establishment for some VIP clients. We attempted to contact her by phone, but she did not answer.||After several attempts, she answers the phone, and we ask her for a refund because the entire situation is horrible and terrifying to have it happen to anyone, but she refuses, saying we already used the room and the refund is not going to happen, and she threatens us over the phone while saying how she "knows people" and is an "expert" in the tourism industry, and that what happened to us was necessary so the government can improve security!!!!!!!! ||Based on our findings, we believe the receptionist is involved in this with others, if not the lady as well...||AVOID STAYING AT THIS HOTEL...
Read moreRead moreIt is my true pleasure to write a review for this wonderful new guest house. My partner and I stayed four days enjoying the tremendously generous hospitality of the owner Ilham and her staff including Mohamed and Mounsif.|| Ilham’s guesthouse was built six years ago and opened as a guesthouse only three months ago. Our suite consisted of a sparkling clean and comfortable bedroom, living room, and large bathroom. Every morning Mohamed brought us a generous breakfast incl. local specialties to the room. The room had a balcony and a stunning view of the blue old Medina. It also has excellent WiFi connection.|| The location of this guesthouse is perfectly situated in a very quiet area just 5 minutes on foot away from the old Medina. Guarded parking is less than one minute away by foot.|| We had car problems and Mounsif assisted us by taking the car to be fixed in a quick and professional manner and at a very reasonable cost, acted as a knowledgeable tour guide in and around town, and offered any assistance wherever and whenever wanted. Ilham offered to go to a Hammam with me to treat my sore back.|| Hardly ever did I meet such a generous and big-hearted team on my travels to various countries. All services where included in the price and tips were not accepted. This is the first review I have ever written to Trip Advisor but I strongly felt the urge to do so. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place.|| Thank you, Ilham, Mohamed, and Mounsif! I hope to be back with friends next year.|||| A very happy and gratefu...
Very new property opened in the beginning of September so there are no signs to get to the hotel (ask locals), but you can just continue on Rue Sidi Ahmed El Ouafi Sebanin till its end up to Bab Muqaddam (orientation point to ask for) gate leading out of Medina and when you pass through he gate on the right you'll find the hotel, new building looks like local residential family house. Further up is the parking place if you need.||||Great location for walking to the mosque to see the blue city or sunset and the water source Ras el Ma'a. Also to the town center, Kasbah and souk its very close, as Chefchaouen medina is quite small.||||I booked a Junior suite – 2 rooms, one with 2 separate beds and one room with double bed with comfortable chair to sit and balcony with nice view of the blue city just above the river, so you can calm down sitting on the balcony and listen to the sound of the river flow. Don't know if there is a breakfast as we eat outside.||||Very comfortable bed, very clean, feels like just build/opened, there are details that are missing: place to hang our clothes and towels, shelves/wardrobe, lamp shades for the bulbs hanging from ceiling, no A/C, no ceiling fans, but all this will be fixed soon I assume, so if you are planning to book in next month be aware of this.||||We really enjoyed our stay there and wish luck to the owners to get more satisfied guest...
