After a full day of travelling from Gibraltar to Tangier and then travelling 4 hours via 2 buses (without air con!) we arrived in Chefchaouen exhausted and ready to shower, eat and refresh. We had booked at another hotel, and when we arrived after a hellish day of travelling, we were told our booking had been cancelled. I've honestly never felt so disheartened and upset because literally everything had gone wrong that day! The original hotel we had booked rang Hotel Tarek and luckily they had room to take us in, for a cheaper rate than we were originally going to pay at the first hotel. We jumped in a taxi and headed to the hotel where we were greeted by a lovely lady who spoke good English, she knew we were due to arrive and showed us to our room promptly. Our room was small but of a nice quality, nice shower, good wifi and air con. We quickly refreshed and then headed out in attempt to find somewhere to eat. The lady again recommended for us to go down the hill as it was quite late and there's no restaurants around the hotel. Luckily we found a place and headed back to the hotel to rest. We were only staying for one night before travelling on again, Chefchaouen was a little disappointing in itself, and does not look like the photos online as we had hoped, however we tried to make the best out of a pretty disappointing trip, and used the next day to wonder around and see some of the town before moving on. The hotel included breakfast which was simple but nice, lots of local Arabic food, fruit and eggs. Orange juice was lovely as was the traditional Moroccan tea. The hotel kindly watched our luggage whilst we went out for a few hours, and the staff were generally very helpful and polite. Thanks for saving us at the last minute...
Read moreThe hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Medina. The building is very nice, keeping in the style of the town. We arrived in a large group. The rooms are a little tight, but in better condition than others I've recently stayed in. Some rooms had no towels. I had to track down someone for one. Our friends next door had a problem w the staff believing them that their room had no towels. There was no remote for the a/c in our room. When I went to reception, they claimed that guest had stolen them and they only had 2 for the entire hotel. They came up to the room to turn on and set the a/c temp. However, could not leave a remote since they didn't have any they could spare. So no personal adjustment was possible. The TV in the room has no English language channels but many German ones. There is building construction next door...
Read moreWhat a complete joy it was to stay at Hotel Tarek. You could feel the warmth of the hospitality as soon as you crossed the threshold. Check in was smooth and my bag was literally run up the stairs to the 2nd floor by one of the young assistants. Inside the room we found a compact, clean, perfectly appointed haven. A well laid out bathroom with a roomy shower recess and wall mounted shower head. Wifi access was easy and reliable, and you simply had to ask at reception for hair dryer and remotes to TV and split system, if required. ||Breakfast consisted of plenty of fresh bread, pastries and assorted toppings. A highlight is the amazing fresh goats cheese (and don't forget the olive oil!) With a 12pm check out and always a smile on hand from the attentive staff, this is one boutique hotel I'd happily...
