A great hostel (riad) few minutes from the main old town square where you will feel like home.
The owner Ayoub is an english speaking, super friendly ultra hospitable guy who loves cleaning, so the hostel and all the rooms are constantly in top condition - which is quite unusual and nice, because most of Marrakesh is quite dirty. For that reason, you also cannot wear shoes inside and use the provided jandals.
After you arrive, he offers you a local tea and quickly deals with all the "paper work", personally shows you the place and sends you all the different tips and tricks to get to know Marrakesh and Moroccan culture through recommending various foods and places to visit.
There is a covered terrace with a sofa and a desk where you can work or just relax on the top floor and from which you can see the famous Koutoubia mosque. There are also two showers and a toilet. As in any riad, each morning starts with a home cooked breakfast, which slightly changes every day. The riad offers multiple shared rooms with 3 or 4 beds, but I think there is also a private room at the top floor.
One of the disadvantages is that with 20+ guests, there are never-ending queues for the shower inside. I actually waited so long I fell asleep, woke in the morning, waited another 2 hours and still couldn't get in. I gave up and used the terrace shower, but the water was completely cold (which is okay for me). The next day, the same shower had a hot water, so I'm not sure what changed.
All in all, that's just a small hurdle given the reasonable price, great and caring people and amazing vibes this place offers. I actually made multiple friends during my two-night stay here.
If you're thinking about it, come and...
Read moreI've never been treated this badly by any hotel (owner) in the world.
He tried to throw me out of the house in the middle of the night because he was not feeling respected enough by me (because 1. he told me to wear sandals in the house while he was cleaning the floor wet and next time he saw me i was without sandals again, as he was not cleaning anymore, but it still upset him, and 2. as i took the ash tray to a different seat on the terrace to smoke than he'd put it, and thought i did that on purpose, though I hadn't known it should stay there. He started shouting "Why don't you respect me, why don't you respect me?!" and ordered me to leave right away although it was past midnight (and I'm a young woman travelling alone). He threw my bags out of the room, followed me to the bathroom and tried to pull me out of there. I refused to leave leave because I had a valid and payed booking and hadn't disrespected any house rule, he was right only about that I found him super annoying and bossy from the beginning and had shown that on my face. He first threatened me, then actually called the police to "kick me out". They of course didn't come to safe his hurt feelings, so I slept, but he only left me alone when I'd gone to my room where there were other customers who would have seen if he'd come close to me again like in...
Read moreI was in the hostel in May and it was a great experience. Before arriving I received a message with advice about how to get to the hostel and picture. It is located cross the road a taxi rank in a quiet street outside the Medina gate but in the Medina area. The owner, Ayoub, explained that the mos important for him is to provide excellent customer experience providing good customer service and clean facilities. I made a request for health reason and it was not problem to accommodate me. He told me could put more beds in the bedrooms to make more money but he is interested in providing comfort. It was nice the terrace upstairs to chill out and the sitting room downstairs for breakfast. I travel often , budget and very happy to return to this place again. It was my first time in Morocco and I noticed when travelling to Arab countries hospitality is a provided treat. I must acknowledge that it is higher than in Europe and have been in...
