Terrible experience!! I am a solo female traveler, and I visited Marrakech. My hotel was called Riad Eden, located in the Medina area. This hotel was situated in narrow alleys. On the first night, since I wasn’t familiar with the city yet, I wanted to go to a restaurant. I asked a man who worked at the front desk if the taxi could bring me directly to the hotel through the narrow alleys I wanted to make sure I will be safe not walking around at night ,he said yes ,and he assured me the taxi will drop me off at the hotel . I asked him to call a taxi , he actually lied instead of calling taxi called his friend , This man had conspired with his friend to overcharge me for the ride. The distance between my hotel and the restaurant was around an 8-minute drive, which should have cost about 10 to 20 dirhams. However, they charged me 400 dirhams for the return !!!!!! first of all he didn’t pick me up at the hotel because it wasn’t allowed, despite the receptionist telling me otherwise. I had to walk for about 10 minutes to get to the car . THE WORST PART , On my way back, the same guy picked me up, but the driver took me to a different part of the city where GPS was showing different direction . I was very scared because I couldn’t understand what was happening. At one point, the driver parked the car without explaining why, in an area where the car doors wouldn’t fully open. I panicked, jumped out of the car, and ran towards the market. I asked people there for help and eventually found my way back to the hotel.
Unfortunately I trusted the receptionist, I believe When you visit a foreign country, you trust hotel’s staff members , but I completely lost my trust in them. I do not recommend this hotel at all because trust is the most important thing, and I have none for the people who...
Read moreThe night before we were set to checkout, from our 7 night stay, we returned to the Riad at 11PM where we were handed a bill from the night manager for local taxes and a airport transfer for the following morning. Why would I be invoiced in this manner? We had only asked if they could contact a taxi for us so pre billing for a taxi is weird also. When checking out I informed the owner that I would pay for the city taxes (385 MD) and nothing else. He says "cash only", when they clearly have a credit card machine and after a minute of awkward arguing he decides to run the card. I specifically said, I would pay the "taxes only" several times to him and he comes back and casually tries to cover up the receipt where he charged me 550 MD. The total of the taxes and for a ride I hadn't asked for, nor received. It's bad enough that these "taxes" were added the last night of our stay and not previously discussed. POINT BLANK. Do not stay at Riad Eden. The owner / guy running the Riad is extremely shady. Super pushy and rude. He ended up chasing us down the street to where the taxies pick up, which made us super uncomfortable. Saying he had a car for us. During our stay he lurked around and constantly pushed for us to eat there every time we came and went. It's like, I came here to explore all over the city I don't want to eat at the Riad every single night. Wifi was extremely poor as well even located close to the router. We didn't read up, however seems like this guys antics are well documented. DO NOT STAY HERE. I can't stress...
Read moreA refreshing 3 night stay in Riad Eden. Everything from arriving to leaving was perfect. During our stay, it was my 30th birthday & my partner had secretly arranged with the manager for me to have some flowers delivered at breakfast..the most beautiful red roses I’ve ever seen. They also got me a cake which was so lovely of them! The food is fantastic, we had dinner on the first night & breakfast every day. All very fresh & tasty! Our room, Cannelle, was really cosy. Very comfy bed! It was a little cold with it being January but plenty of throws/covers are left in the room which really helped. Anything we needed, whether it being advice, transport, excursions..was no trouble at all. The manager was exceptional and made our stay very comfortable. The location is great, it’s tucked away in the back streets but feels very safe walking to & from it. Be sure to trace your steps on your first outing though, we did get lost! It’s fine to find once you get your bearings. If it is your first time in Marrakech, I can really recommend a tour of the Souks on arrival which the manager can arrange. It helps with settling in to the craziness! Thank you all, we...
