We stayed for eight days and it was a really excellent experience. The staff were so attentive, friendly and helpful. Kahlid, Hassan, the Mohammeds and the whole team looked after us so well.|The facilities have both traditional character and modern services. The rooftop terrace was a delightful space to enjoy the wonderful winter sun.|We found the location ideal for exploring the medina while also being only about five minutes away from vehicle access where we could meet up with tour guides and taxis.||Trip typeHoliday · Couple||Rooms5.0||Service5.0||Location5.0||Kristi Tayelor5/53 months ago on Google||Riad Jona was the absolute perfect place for your Moroccan getaway!! Read moreWe stayed in the Riad for 4 nights and 5 days. We did a lot of research before booking so I think we knew what to expect. Also this is our second time in Marrakech and we've stayed in a Riad before so this helps manage expectations. Pictures on TripAdvisor are accurate and self explanatory.
We selected a meet and greet at the airport which was 20 euros. We assumed that the price was for all the way to the hotel. However when we arrived at the roundabout and our items were loaded into the cart to take through the souks, we were asked for further payment when we arrived at the Riad. We paid with the lowest note we had, which was far too much for a 5 minute walk. In regards to the 20€ for the airport transfer, we were picked up with a sign, escorted to a large comfortable vehicle and the man collecting us did have to wait quite a while for us due to delays and passport control. Considering the average taxi will try and charge you around 200-300 MAD, you're paying for a more comfortable service for a similar price.
Breakfast was delicious every morning. With different pastries and cakes every day. On our last day we requested the Morrocan Baghrir pancakes and they were brought to use in addition to the normal breakfast of the day. We were so pleased and surprised. Yummy and delicious! Thank you to the lady chef who served them to us.
We also had dinner and dessert at the hotel and this was delicious too.
The hotel has plenty of areas to relax and get away from the hussle and bussle of the souks. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the pool facilities as there was a problem with lots of tiny flies in the water. I think this should be resolved for future guests, and also for the reputation of the Riad. It's pointless to have such a nice facility if no one can use it.
Another small improvement is slightly more premium shampoo and shower gel options in the bathrooms. On a positive note the riad did provide cotton buds, cotton pads and a small soap bar for hand washing.
The Riad is a 10 mins walk to the main square passing by many stalls and restaurants on the way up. Very convenient location to get to the tourist attractions but also good to get away and retreat away from it all.
Special thanks to Eunice and Khalid (sorry if I misspelled the names) who were always available to answer our questions and always checked in with us to make sure we were doing OK, needed anything, and checked to make sure we weren't overcharged in the souks. Thank you to Fatima the chef, delicious food. Thank you to the house keeping team. The rooms were cleaned and towels changed daily. Overall a great...
Read moreReading the TripAdvisor reviews and looking at the photos on the Riad Jona website we were excited to have Superior rooms here. Until we saw them. Please look at the photos I took of my room and see if it's on the same page as the enticing photos on their site. (The photos of the upper outside areas are the only ones I can see are 'right' - lovely spaces).||The room was small, beige, shabby, and dirty. Not dirty in the sense that mirrors, sinks etc weren't gleaming - they were spotless - but dirty in the sense that, for example, the rugs looked as if their last wash was Noah's flood and were so grey and stained I did not like walking barefoot on them. Or the grot behind the toilet - plaster drops, mastic etc that needed scaping off. Or the window (with a chip hole through it) with paint or black sealant on the glass that needed scraping off. See my photos.||How does this square with the attractive photos on their website and the generally very favourable reviews on here. I can only think that perhaps they have a programme to refurbish the 16 rooms and we got ones on the 'to do' list. I notice that one other reviewer on here posted a series of photos similar to mine - another un-refurbished room?||An added irritant was that we booked 2 superior rooms on one booking and were given rooms in different buildings. On opposite sides of the alley.||The management and Naturally Morocco recognised how unhappy we were. The riad waived the bill for wine (we had 2 or 4 between us each day) and produced a plate of 3 Briouats which were stellar. We also received compensation. Makes you feel better but we wish we hadn't gone here in the first place.||Positives - lovely breakfast, great rooftop terrace space, helpful staff and great location about 8 mins South of the J'maa Al Fnaa.||I've been to Marrakech many times. I know that you can't be too 'precious' about things like decor - Marrakech is 'shabby chic'. But the room I had at Riad Jona was...
