If a hotel was a nepokid, Dusit is the nepokid of Lazimpat. A hotel that tries to be a nightclub, bullying the other neighbouring hotels & community.
I am staying in Kathmandu for a month, and I have 3 remaining weeks without any bookings. I thought about staying with Dusit Princess.
It is a recent hotel, towering over neighbours - the Radisson, the much older & smaller heritage Manaslu Hotel & Hotel Tibet. I stayed here 12 years ago when the Dusit didn't exist and was just a carpark.
Dusit looks opulent, and when I first returned to Lazimpat, I thought of staying with them in my remain time here. No doubt the service for Dusit guests is excellent. But management treatment of neighbouring hotels & community shows them to be a neighbourhood bully, and I can't in good conscience stay with them.
The building has a rooftop bar on 12th floor. It runs regular Friday events that blast their live music so loud that the neighbouring hotels and guests can hear every lyric and drum beat clearly. Other hotels have asked them to please turn it down as their guests have complained of the noise. Even with windows closed we can hear the music.
At first I thought this was a one off event or a wedding - I could hear their sound check at dinner. I thought as I was on the 5th floor rooftop for dinner, the music wouldn't be noticeable back in my room inside on the 3rd floor. Or that they'd turn the music down for the live show but no, even from the ground floor and 1st floor bedrooms we can hear Dusit's 12th floor proclaim their party with arrogance.
Apparently other hotels have asked Dusit to please consider other hotel's guests, but they don't turn the volume down. It's a regular thing, where they force other hotels & community, 12 floors below them to suffer their insufferablly loud music.
Running regular Friday night live music till 10pm is perfectly fine, but it's the volume level and context of location.
Dusit isn't a nightclub. It's a luxury hotel. This isn't in Thamel area with nightlife hotspots. This is a quiet area (that guests specifically choose for this reason). They are in very close proximity to other hotels. They have received feedback from neighbours about the noise, yet they continue, almost purposefully.
After sightseeing, trekking, jetlag or a hard work-week, every guest & regular local people LIVING here have a right to NOT have to hear your music blasting as if it's right outside the bedroom. I love live music but it's not reasonable to force your neighbours to listen to it this loud.
For a luxury hotel, it seems like the event organisers and hotel management of Dusit have no clue how to run tasteful events that respect their neighbours & community.
What Dusit is doing is not fair. It's not kind. It's very unprofessional.
I've been lucky to stay all over the world for business and holidays in 5-star places. This is not 5-star behaviour, it's peak nepokid cringe.
It's like living next door to an arrogant rich nepokid who owns a big house, throwing loud parties because he is hopelessly hollow and desperate for clout. He cosplays being a DJ, and to compensate for his lack of substance, street cred and talent, he turns the volume to max and thinks that the noise can hide his awful personality.
Dusit, please rethink your sound levels on your open air rooftop bar. Your volume is ostentatiously loud. It can't be good for your own guests' hearing to have noise at that high levels in such close proximity. You're likely damaging your guests' hearing.
Sure, keep your Friday night event but please have some level of empathy for your neighbouring hotels & community. Could you not consider turning it down just a little?
Dusit may be gorgeous, but unfortunately, she only treats her guests well. She seems devoid of community compassion and full of arrogance. I hope Dusit management considers this feedback because it's an horrendous display of bullying others smaller than you. Live up to your 5-star claim and be a better part of...
Read moreThe hotel is tidy and conveniently placed. Food is also delicious. We hosted a luncheon party for over 130 guests at KIBU Sky Lounge, a rooftop venue with an excellent view. However, the quality of service provided by some of its employees, especially the sales team, is not up to mark.
My point of contact Miss Priyanka N. did not work efficiently. We were hurried to visit the venue on our first appointment with her at the hotel café before we had time to finish our coffee. That's not a welcoming attitude.
She informed me that the Princess Ballroom had already been reserved by someone else after delivering the contract for it. The cards for the invitations were made. I felt worried. The gracious intervention by MD Mr. Lama allowed us to get the rooftop space, which was ideal for the event. We were even given a changing room.
Some guests voiced concern early on, claiming they could not find any signage directing them to the venue within the hotel. Mr. Ashish from Sales helped us figure it out when we approached him about it. However, we were unpleasantly surprised when he informed us that they were awaiting for a response to their email regarding the specifics of the event. But we received no such any email request.
On the day of the luncheon, one of the items, "amritsari fish," was absent from the snack. Upon inquiring with a steward, he proceeded to verify and informed me that it wasn't the menu provided to F&B. After I produced my signed copy to the Banquet team member Mr Suraj, Ms. Priyanka arrived and informed me that it would be sent out in roughly fifteen minutes. It was nearly two hours after the celebration began when a platter of fried but mushy fish was delivered.
Mr. Suraj from Banquets arrived with a bill after the celebration was over, disregarding the mushy fish that had been provided. I made the entire payment. No one from the sales team came to talk.
Even while the location, food (well, except for the soggy amritsari fish), and Mr. Lama's thoughtful gesture made me extremely delighted, the hotel staff's services fell short of my expectations. A large number of my visitors had never been to the hotel before and had been delighted. They even intend to reserve it for their supper and lunch gatherings.
I suggest if you are using this hotel for events, please be thorough when negotiating and do follow up because service delivery is not up...
