Staying at this guesthouse was such an incredible experience. I LOVED the decor, the service, and the location. They do a really incredible job of keeping the space clean, while giving you a good taste of what the traditional Newari style is like. ||||My room had a double bed, an eating area, a private bathroom, and a closet to. hand stuff up. I was nervous about the temperature (I live in Hawaii & the temperature was in the 40's EEK!), but the warm blankets they provided were more than enough. ||||The breakfast they served gave a good variety of foods and had as much tea as you could drink! I sat in one of the window frames looking out on the courtyard. It had. posts on either side that show the beautiful characteristics of the traditional wood carvings. ||||The staff. was incredibly accommodating. They were willing to help us with finding taxis to our locations, booking tours, and storing our luggage while we were away. They also had a great cafe that we used to check in with our family, friends, and work back home. ||||This is in the heart of Patan, just a couple of blocks away from the Patan Durbur Square, but walking around is easy and really enriching. You can see how much history is in this. section of town. ||||I highly recommend that...
Read moreStaying in Newa Chen was one of the best highlights in my Kathmandu. ||||Rooms, lavatory and shower are clean and very spacious. Location is few mins walk to Dubur Square, very easy access to restaurants and shops.||||One may ask if the guesthouse could arrange a room away from the street to avoid the minor street noise. But it’s all acceptable.||||But the above are not the main points for me to recommend this guesthouse. ||||This Is in fact the family house of the owner couple, with the passion on maintaining their own property and legacy. The couple paid the best effort to impress their guest:||1/ we were invited to join their family dinner, try their homemade Dal baht in an authentic way - by our hands. I may not have done it outside our guesthouse due to hygiene reason. But I did feel like home when I actually have my dinner in the guesthouse dinner room ||2/ I lost my wallet after my visit to the museum on last day. I was so panic ! With his good standard of spoken English, the owner helped me to call around the restaurants, the police stations. I finally searched it back in a resultant (where the shop owner kept it for me)||||I am so thankful for the newa Chen owners great hospitality and help. It made the best experience I had...
Read moreI've stayed at Newa Chen both times I've visited Kathmandu. It truly is a hidden gem in Patan. The guest house is located near the airport, so it's a much shorter ride than going all the way out to Thamel. You're located just meters from Patan Durbar Square. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Breakfasts are filling and come with a variety of choices. Yes, the ceilings are low and I've hit my head from time to time on a roof pillar in the room, but it's part of the charm while staying at such an old and unique guesthouse. Yes, the room off the square can be noisy because there' a temple right outside and people ring the bell early in the morning. Welcome to Nepal and try bringing ear plugs. And yes, some mornings I may not have had very hot water. But again, welcome to Nepal, where a lot of water is solar heated. If you want sterile modernity, I'm sure you can find a big box Holiday Inn up in Thamel more to your liking. If not and you want a true Nepalese...
