It has been more than a decade since I first stayed at Traditional Homes. I walked in off the street after a booking at another hotel was unavailable and the manager was so friendly showing me to a beautiful room on the second floor. And then as we got talking he found out that I was the photographer who did publicity shots for them a decade ago. He then offered an upgrade with the suite on the top floor with a small terrace looking out over the city. It was as clean and as elegant as it was 10 years ago. Best thing about this place, and the reason I'm doing this review, is the fact that it's a really well renovated historic Kathmandu of the Newari clan (or is it a caste?). There aren't many hotels or buildings of such quality and for this it's worth a visit if not a stay.
The restaurant is good, clean and modern and the staff really friendly.
If I need to book a hotel in the Patan area of Kathmandsu I would be torn between this one and the one right next door -- the Inn, also a beautiful renovation job.
Both places are little oasis of calm and taste in the chaos...

This is a chef that really knows what they’re doing. Plus, the service is perfect, the wine is excellent, and the atmosphere is comfortable. I loved the big heaping salads, the croque madame, and the cheesecake especially. This is also the place to go if you’re craving steak or a giant cheeseburger.
