How you feel about this hotel will depend on what you want and expect from a hotel. If you like the sleak, reliable familiarity of an international chain, then this place is not for you. If you don't mind something a bit quirky, then give it a go. Quirky it certainly is. For me it had a slightly "haunted house" feel with its old fashioned decor and fittings. Mod cons are not in abundance, even the tv was smaller than most laptop screens, but this quirkiness is (for me anyway) quite appealing. Some things were a bit odd (toilet and shower not enclosed by a door for example) and the sound proofing is dreadful (people stomping around on the corridor and closing doors was super loud) but for one or two nights it is OK. Location is excellent, a five minute walk from the central areas of Maastricht and secure parking is available just around the corner. Don't forget, this place offers cheaper rooms than almost any other hotel in the central district, so if you want more, pay more. Cannot comment on breakfast as went to the health food cafe just over the road.

I would give fewer stars if it was possible. The only good thing is the location that we had to reserve because of a concert which we wanted to go in the nearby area. 1. The whole hotel is extremely old and outdated. 2. The steps to the stairs are too steep and the dark carpet and dim light make it challenging to climb the stairs up or down. The wooden stairs are unstable and you have the feeling that they will fall apart. 3. The room is very small. Has nothing but a safe and small coffee machine in it. No refrigerator. No bottled water. Dirty. The walls are dirty. 3. The beds are outdated, old and full of scratches. Come on! At least change those beds. 4. Why on earth would some one pay almost 300 euros for such an accommodation? 5. I did not book breakfast as it was extremely overpriced. 6. We parked our car in a parking lot recommended by the hotel which was 10 minutes away. The hotel gave us a Reduction code which was good. 7. Overall, I was not satisfied with my stay at all. Not recommended.

I'll start from the downside: We had to split our 3-member family, because it was against 'hotel policy' to have a 9 y-o as a third person in a room for two. We had to pay for an extra single room. It may have been my own fault initially for having overlooked the booking details, but thanks for the flexibility! To be fair, what was described as 'double twin bed' was actually quite small. I don't think a bed with about 1m width counts as a 'twin bed'. It was pushed against another 'twin' to make a 'double' :) However, of course you can't fit a big bed in a small room. So maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all for me to sleep separately in a faraway single room. Positive sides: very clean, great location, nice mix of old and new. I liked the design and the old furniture, even the creaky narrow stairs.

Let me start with the positive: The rooms are lovely and the location is fantastic.

On the other side, however, our room had two narrow single beds pushed together. This was quite uncomfortable as a couple.

Furthermore, I am horrified by the rudeness and utter unfriendliness of the staff. One example of an encounter is upon checking out - I received the exit card for the garage. The receptionist explained the route and how to use it. When I wanted to confirm the route: she rolled her eyes and aggressively scolded me!

Regarding the breakfast, spare yourself the hassle! I booked the non-refundable room option - needless to say this also applies to the breakfast. Despite it being an ‘optional extra’, not included in the nightly rate (you tick a box upon booking) and being invoiced/deducted from your account separately. I requested to cancel the breakfast for the second morning and again was scolded at. Furthermore, the evening before, the receptionist refused to wait 15 minutes (while I was showering) for us to hand in the form with our breakfast order. She aggressively came to the room to collect it!

Dear Anouk, In response to your response, you may want to look 'scold' up in the English dictionary. Your staff did not swear at me (uitschelden), but most definitely were aggressive and unfriendly. That is the truth and you can refer to many other reviews on other fora which are in agreement with my experience. It is up to you what you do with this review and how much you would like to improve the experience of your guests. I am merely sharing my experience. Thanks and kind...

The arrival was already disappointing. ||- We were given a room where even my student room was more luxurious and beautiful. There were a few old pieces of furniture that were too bad for the thrift store.||- The beds were 2 camp beds pushed together.||- The shower did not work properly.||- the promised room with cityview was a 2 meter high window where you looked directly against another residential building. That is just pure scam.||- the rooms were very noisy. You could literally hear the conversation in the street from the 2nd floor. Really not of this time.||- there was also no cleaning, there were still things from the previous guests under the bed, brrrr.||- further there was no breakfast. That for a hotel. It turned out that someone was sick so we had to go to another hotel of the chain to have breakfast there. There it was a chicken coop because they now had guests from 2 hotels having breakfast in 1 breakfast room. ||- After complaining we got another room for 1 night. When we went to get the car for our suitcases, the pass of the outside door was already blocked! Now we had to ring the bell like little kids at the reception that was remote to ask if we could go in to get our suitcases still.||- When I angrily said something about this to the manager, she reacted irritated, and I felt far from being welcomed and hospitable. A course in hospitality would be good.||- in the new room the shower ran over immediately. When I inspected the shower it still showed dirt from the previous users, which had not been cleaned. Brrrr.||We are done here. Not...

For my stay in Maastricht, I booked the first Hotel Sint Jacob, the sister Hotel Boutique Hotel Grote Gracht. Due to the impossibility of staying in that hotel, we unfortunately moved to this hotel. We traveled for a long time and were tired and happy that they could receive us. The room was on the ground floor, because my husband has problems with his knees due to the stairs, which were narrow and difficult to climb, so the option of a room on the first floor was not possible. The air in the room was stale and did not smell pleasant, but it was already late and we decided to stay. We both slept poorly, although the bed itself was not uncomfortable. The next day I complained about the accommodation, but they didn't have another room for us. The receptionists were friendly, but they couldn't help us. The room is poorly cleaned, there is a bad smell in the bathroom that spreads into the room. There was dust everywhere. There were no closets to store clothes. All in all, it is a negative experience to mark such accommodation with 3 🌟, and its sister Hotel Boutique Hotel Sint Jacob with 4 🌟. They have a modern check in/out system, but everything else...
