Arriving at the car park we were greeted by our host who came to the door to acknowledge our arrival and welcome us to his motel. Having called earlier in the day to explain that pepe mokopuna would be accompanying us at last minute and this not being a problem, we asked about differing options to suit our updated needs and this request was met with a can do solution. First tick.
Check in was friendly and expedient - with our host making sure that our refreshment requirements were surpassed and an offer of additional tea coffee and milk if requied.
Being shown to our accomodations by the host and shown the features therein was a refreshing change from what we’ve become used to when motelling. Second tick.
The accomodation itself is clean, freshly decorated and well appointed in terms of sleeping options, plenty of seating options for the number of possible guests, and includes additional towels and complimentary toiletries, as well as spare toiletries should the need arise. These are highlighted by our host making sure we feel welcome to employ their use. Third tick.
The ‘feel’ of our quarters is homely with the reasonable sized fridge, couch, telly, and food/refreshment prep space. For me, the existence of a separate place to draw drinking water from the bathroom is a massive relief. So too is the generously (or should I say standard home) sized toilet and seat allowing comfortable use of these amenities. This is vastly different from many places where there is obvious cost saving in this department - this was a huge fourth tick.
The comfy beds and access to extra pillows and blankets rounded out the fifth tick.
Wife and I have been looking for an establishment to become our regular as we have need to travel to Christchurch semi regularly for health reasons and today we found it.
We will absolutely be back - and we are so grateful to have experienced this place and unearthed it as a wee gem of local hospitality.

Read moreHorrible booking experience! My partner was travelling to Christchurch on a business trip and I wanted to make an urgent booking for 3 nights. I wanted to support the hotel so I called them to book direct instead of going to a third party website. I was straight away told on phone..that either email us and we will get back to you later or go to Expedia (shocking!!). As the booking was urgent, I went ahead and booked via booking.com. At the final stages of payment, I chose ‘pay now’ option (and it mentions that they accept Amex credit card) and when i tried to complete the payment it kept saying failed payment.. which forced me to chose the other option of “pay at property”. Finally the booking was done and I got a confirmation email. I left a note when making my booking that my partner would be checking in around 10pm. 2 hours before (8pm), I got a notification that the booking is cancelled. No phone call/ message from the property whatsoever!!!.My partner reaches at the property at 9.30pm - there’s no one at the reception!! We were left utterly frustrated looking for another accomodation after 9.30pm. NEVER BOOKING WITH THIS...
