Kerry's Motel — Hotel in North Island

When booking from the other end of the island we only had the photos and reviews to work with and this only looked ok (given the price and location). |When we turned up (after a long day driving etc) we were dismayed to see that there was a lot of ‘dumped’ furniture and rubbish on the street but thought ‘we will stick with it’. |The host Kerry was nice and very helpful and was very accomodating (+) so we ventured up to the room.| Now I can probably live with the bottle of water and cigarette butts outside our room and I can live with the general run down nature of the hotel but the white stains (many white stains) almost did it for me - but we stayed. I was not confident enough in the cleaning to take my shoes off. The I used the toilet and the dust and grime around the window really shows that my lack of faith was well judged. |Spent the night in what was a surprisingly comfortable bed with crisp clean sheets (+) but would not stay for our, usual, breakfast as the crockery was old, chipped and not really clean and I wasn’t even game enough to get the toaster out. |Now some may say ‘you get a budget hotel for a budget price but we moved to another establishment just around the corner which is cheaper and 200 % better value and condition. |Normally I would not comment on this sort of place BUT photos and reviews should be an honest assessment and...

Somewhat tired, but reasonable value for money. Needed a good spring-clean and repaint. Good to have a decent couch to sit in. Our unit had lots of room - I suspect those with more beds were tighter. Didn't see a lot of the hosts, which was fine - they left us to it. Reception had lots of travel idea brochures. Close enough to town if you had transport - maybe 15 minutes (flat) walk otherwise. Closer to other attractions on the south side of town. Easy to find. Parking was free, but tight if other guests weren't careful. Some noise from other units, but bearable. Plenty of hot water in shower;...

Very basic but clean. Needs a makeover but it is all there. Pricing a bit high, possibly needs a review. It would be good if the cigarette ends were cleared away by supplying ashtrays at the units. I do not smoke but the evidence of others is unfortunately there to be seen. Shower superb, better than at home and plenty of hot water. I will stay again as it is central, traffic noise not a problem for me. Just price accordingly...
