Can confirm they have weird rules in place such as only allowing alcoholic drinks between 6p to 10p. The owner apparently didn't know Kombucha is not a beer and almost went ahead and issued me a fine. Oh yes there are also fines for leaving you dishes, for making loud noises when drunk (OK these might be alright in enforcing displicine but is it legal?). The also charge 5 dollars for luggage storage. Given the price they charge (185 per week for 6 beds dorm) it's just outrageous. Only came here after seeing a job ("kiwifruit" planting, which is in reality kiwi orchard development, and you only got to plant shelterbelt plants) posted on backpackerboard, but be warned that these jobs they put out are only from firms owned by the owner's friend, and they want to make you feel you owe them the offer.

To be fair, it is nice to have direct flame for cooking though. But that was probably only thing that's good...

Wouldn't recommend going there as a female solo traveler if you don't feel comfortable living mainly with men. Most guests appeared to be seasonal workers and really "lived" there. If you want a hostel to connect to backpackers your age ( early twenties) this one is not the place for it, it's more of a working hostel. Reception was unattended in the morning 9:30 to 10:10 as well which I found quite inconvenient after being a receptionist myself ( a guest had to help me with my luggage, since I needed to store my luggage). Staff seemed nice otherwise and facilities were pretty clean. The top bunks don't have a railing, so keep that in mind if you want to book there and don't care about the other stuff. All in all a...
