Albany Oak Motel — Hotel in Upper Harbour

I never actually stayed here. I booked paid and needed to reschedule by 1 night due to flight cancellation but the response of the hotel was so horrendous I was amazed. |hen my flights got cancelled due to weather and I needed to delay my stay by one night. I called the morning and requested to cancel or reschedule and was told that there is no refund, so I asked to reschedule the next night. The lady said they were fully booked the next night. I said well there are cancellations sometimes so I'll call you tomorrow to check if you have a room and then may I reschedule and she said yes. |Next day I called and asked do you have a room for tonight, lady says yes we do, great, I say, I missed my booked and paid for night last night and need to reschedule for tonight so happy you suddenly have a room. Oh well , lady said, it's not a room it's a bedroom that shares a bathroom with the on call manager. No problem, I said. Oh no, she said, I have to check if we can make up the bed in that room and if it's ok with the manager. Wait, I said, you just told me you have a room, is this a room you rent ? Yes, in emergencies, she said. |Great, I said, can I have the room ? |Oh no I must ask the manager she said|Ok, will you let me know? I asked |Yes she said I'll call you |She never called.|4 hours later in the late afternoon I called and asked if they managed to find out. |Oh yes the girl said we can setup the bed for you but it's just a room with a bed. Yes I said I understand. |And then she said , it will be $150 for the night! |I'm not debating the face you do not want to refund for last minute cancellation or even let someone reschedule but misleading your guests and treating them like beggars is not...

At $215 per night it was very poor value for money. On check in I was told it was normally $185 but they'd increased the price because the dates were popular. The room is tired and dated. Paintwork is chipped. The bathroom is below average. The shampoo and body wash are awful and gooey. There is no fan in the bathroom. There is no filter coffee or plunger if you were to buy your own - just a few boring instant coffee sachets and teabags - one variety only. The microwave is ancient and sits tilted on its little rails. There are no dishes for the microwave. There is not even a salad bowl. There is a pervading smell of somebody's cooking that wafts up into the room. The freezer takes 2 days to freeze an ice pack. Then 2 hotplates are not the cleanest. Here a serviced room means they replace towels and make the bed. They replaced the tiny milks in the fridge and left the fridge door open. What's good? Wi-fi. The bed is comfortable. 3 nights in perfect situation. Wonderful, friendly staff, plenty of space outside in garden to relax and rehearse. Conference room inside. Excellent sleeping arrangements for 23 young students and three adult staff.The Motel staff went as far as to prepare 350 dumplings for us one night. We polished off the lot!||Very close to cinema centre and lots of great restaurants. Terrific coffee shop across car park.||Intend to go back next September.||Please note, I am a very light sleeper and sensitive to the slightest noise.
