I have stayed in a lot of Hampton Inns over the years, almost all in the United States. Most of them remind me of a cleaner version of a cheap motel with a breakfast room added, so my expectations were not very high. However, I was extremely surprised. The Hampton in Arequipa was amazing. First, the location is perfect. It's right in the middle of the historic centre of town, and easy walking distance from all of the major historical and cultural sites. The hotel itself appears to be a very modern construction housed within a historical structure, complete with interior courtyards for outdoor dining (I ate breakfast outdoors most days). The room was very nice, spacious, clean, modern. I didn't have a view, but it was clear that many of the rooms would have a view of one of the three volcanoes that surround the city. The fitness centre was not bad - mostly cardio equipment with some light dumbbells - and was open 24 hours. Breakfast was good. It included the usual continental and US offerings but also some specialties from the local cuisine. I hadn't expected there to be a restaurant serving lunch and dinner, but I had dinner there on my last day and it was delicious - a pisco sour, a tiradito de trucha and chicharron de cerdo. I will definitely plan to stay there on my next visit...
Read moreEach day I was calling the reception at 5am to let them know I wanted to extend my stay after asking them the total price for one more night. When I called them the morning before my last night the person at the reception told me the last night would cost 159$ including all taxes, so I accepted. But the same evening when I wanted to pay my bill because the next day I had an early flight, the lady at the reception told me the last night cost was 186$ because of taxes. I explained her that her colleague told me it was 159$ total but she didn't listen. After that I asked for an interview with hotel manager to solve the issue. The manager was almost rude with me - not trusting me about the initial price announced. A few hours later the same person who initially said the price would be 159$ called my room and told me not to worry, I will have to pay 159$ total including taxes. Next day at the reception I had to pay more than 180$ for the night and couldn't contest because I had to leave for my flight. I guess there's a big communication issue between staff members, only a few speak good english. However it's not my problem, they should be reliable when they give a price and not blame their client for their...

The first day went perfect by day 3 and coming back from a tour I noticed my luggage was all messy and things were moved as I left it in an specific angle with things placed in a different. When confronting and speaking with front desk to please call manager that I would like to have a chat with him/her. Took a couple of minutes; front desk employee explained her in Spanish as he thought I didn’t speak the language. Had to clarify him what I had spoken to him earlier and was flabbergasted as they noticed I spoke Spanish. Never judge a book by its cover. I was told they will investigate with security as I was heading to another tour that evening. When I came back and asked for the manager, I was told she was out for the day. No manager at establishment. How convenient. I am sure if the day manager leaves there should be a night one in charge. They didn’t resolve anything.
I will never stay in this establishment or any Hilton in Peru...
