We were just at the Doubletree El Pardo earlier this month and had yet another lovely stay. We arrived around midnight, very tired. Giancarlo helped us take our luggage to the suite we had reserved and gave us a good welcome. This hotel is perfectly located in Miraflores, within walking distance of Gaston Acurio's popular restaurant Panchita (2 blocks or less), and the handicraft markets on Petit Thoars street. There is a convenience shop called "Listo!" on the corner across the street for water, wine and snacks, if needed.||||Highlights of our stay include exellent service at the breakfast buffet. Angel was on top of everything including remembering I requested decaf coffee after I ordered it the first day. He is a complete professional. Esperanza greeted us each morning with a smile as we entered the restaurant and helped me get hot water before breakfast to take to our room. Luz was another person who waited on us and was a ray of sunshine.||||I would say the biggest asset of the Pardo is its jewel restaurant La Terraza. We ate there several times during our stay. It is much more than a hotel restaurant and the menu offers many Peruvian dishes that rival those of the famous Panchita down the street. On the final day of our stay we said "goodbye" to Peru with a ceviche de crema de rocoto that was the best I'd ever had with a pastel de acelga (Swiss chard type of eggless quiche dish) accompanied by their awesome aji (chile) sauce. ||||Other notes: the bed was very comfy and we were well taken care of by Samuel who serviced our room. We had one small matter that needed attending and he got a maintenance man up to the room right away. We tended to have a relaxed schedule, leaving the room late in the morning. Always when we came back a few hours later our room was magically cleaned. (That doesn't happen at all hotels).||||The doormen at the hotel are excellent customer-facing representatives, providing a secure environment and a friendly face when we came back from being out and about. Name of note: Jesus.||||Thanks to all the Pardo staff who made our stay so memorable. We will be back!||||P.S.- We have stayed at the JW Marriott and Hilton Miraflores on other stays, but it's the Doubletree El Pardo that gets our return business.||||The hotel's room service is great. We even were able to get room service from La Terraza. It was...
Read moreI have stayed at this hotel twice. The facility is old and it shows, they have no spa (there is a gym attached to the hotel that you can use, but no "Spa"), the pool is on the roof, (NOT HEATED, its freezing, cant use). the rooms are ok, nothing special. The first time I stayed everything was fine. The second time I went, the AC was not working. No big deal, it happens. The disappointing part was how they handled it. They sent a tech 4 times in 1 hour intervals and they were not able to fix it. Refused a room change saying it was fixed "give it time to cool". I had to sleep with the window open. ON THE LAST NIGHT, they agreed to switch rooms, same type room, not an upgrade. I refused it because it was not worth packing and unpacking for 1 night of AC...The GM, Mr Tissier needs a lesson in hospitality. Hotels are my home away from home, I travel for work a little over half of the year and am as high as you can go in Hiltons loyalty program... I had to go directly to corporate to be compensated for my bad experience. The hotel GM refused to award anything other than a free nights stay at his hotel (at a hotel I would never stay at again). I chased him (for a month) for answers and an alternative to his offer with no resolve. He gave me a string of bullshit excuses like : "the board of the hotel does not give points" or "I am at corporate putting your offer through" (when his staff told my he was on vacation in France).I finally went to corporate, presented the proof and got some points put in my account...THERE ARE MANY other choices in Lima. Stay away from this hotel.
UPDATE----12-12-12
Since writing this review, after immense pressure, a few negative reviews and a call to corporate, the hotel has compensated me with an acceptable amount of points. I will consider giving them another chance if back in...
Read moreI’ve been living in Lima for a while now, and when friends or family come to visit I have always recommended El Pardo - until the most recent visit it has been a good recommendation. In booking in advance for the most recent stay, the guests were made to pay an 18% tax on the stay that was clearly stated to be only for permanent residents or people staying in the country more than 60 days. In trying to ameliorate this issue in advance, we were assured that this charge would be waived upon check-in at the hotel. Once my guests had arrived, they brought up the 18% tax that they had been promised would be refunded at check-in, but were told it needed to be discussed with a manager who was off duty. The following day, we followed up with said manager - he was not helpful and in fact quite condescending - we pulled up the website that specifically stated the tax was only meant for people staying in Peru for more than 60 days, or permanent residents of the country - no budge. Ultimately, we decided to discuss the issue with Hilton HQ in the US, but the experience left a very bad taste in the mouth - especially for a hotel that insists that if there are any issues, they will make it right. After this experience, I’d warn visitors to Lima not to stay here - there are plenty of excellent hotels in Lima and in Miraflores specifically who won’t put you through this during your stay - choose...
