I wish I could say nicer things about this hotel, but our experience was disappointing. Upon arrival, the front desk clerk informed us that she couldn’t check us in and that we had to wait for her colleague, who was picking up guests at the train station. After waiting 10/15 minutes, her colleague arrived, but instead of assisting us, he prioritized checking in a family that had arrived after us, which we understood since they had a child. However, it took over 15 minutes due to issues with their credit card, and we were left waiting with no acknowledgment from the staff.
After finally attending to us, he told us there was no room available due to a maintenance issue, something he clearly knew from the moment we arrived. Instead of informing us earlier, we were made to wait over 25 minutes. He offered to arrange a better hotel for us at no extra cost, but upon arriving, that hotel was fully booked. We were then walked to a third hotel, which had a room we reluctantly accepted after a long day in the Sacred Valley. This hotel was not up to standard, it was poorly maintained, with bugs and mosquitoes everywhere, as the bathroom window wouldn’t close.
Unfortunately, this was the only negative experience we had in Peru. These things happen, but we regret how poorly the front desk handled the situation and made us wait unnecessarily. If you manage to get your room at this hotel, it’s probably fine, but be aware that there’s a risk of not getting the room you booked and ending up somewhere you wouldn’t...
Read moreOur arrival was a bit confusing — we couldn’t find the person who was supposed to meet us at the train station, so we walked to the hotel ourselves and had some trouble locating it. It’s not the easiest place to find unless you know exactly where to look 😅.
That said, once we arrived, things improved quickly. I believe it’s a family-run hotel, and the staff was very welcoming. They even upgraded us to a family room at no extra cost! The room was spacious and perfect for a family of four, although the bathroom was quite small. The view from the window was beautiful, and the line for the Machu Picchu bus stops right in front of the hotel — super convenient.
There were some renovations going on, so breakfast was served in a smaller dining area, but I have to admit: breakfast really exceeded my expectations. It was delicious!
One important note: avoid the restaurant “Allpa” next door. Unfortunately, my son got a salmonella or parasite infection after eating there and had to skip our Machu Picchu visit. Very disappointing.
Luckily, the hotel family went above and beyond — they immediately contacted medical help, arranged treatment, and really took care of us. We’ll need follow-up blood tests in Cusco, but their support made a big difference.

Read moreSuch a nice little hotel that is super close to the bus stop!
The good things... The owner was FANTASTIC. So helpful and sweet. Helped us with the bus tickets and told us to line up early. The breakfast was great!! (I wasn't expecting breakfast either!) Lovely fresh fruit, eggs, avocado and lots of little treats. Great location central to anything you need in Aguas Caliente.
The room was super clean and the towel animals were sweet. The room didn't have temperature control, but the fan did fine for keeping us cool. Keeping the window open would have been better, but it's LOUD outside at night! The bathroom is tiny and I think this hotel officially gets the award for the toilet being as close to the bed as I've ever seen! The hot water completely cut out on the morning, so we weren't able to shower.
Overall, it's definitely not a luxury hotel... But a fantastic place to stay for a night when heading off to...
