Best 3 Star Hotel in Angeles City
Pros: Location, Staff, WiFi Cons: Maintenance, Pillows, Water Pressure
Solo leisure traveler, that stayed for over one month..
The Orchid Inn is located one block from all the action on Walking Street. There are no comparable hotel for the price in the area. Kevin the manager, heads a great team that are friendly and look after your every need. If something's wrong or you need help, expect a knock on your door within seconds. Even when I changed from another hotel to the OI, a staff helped me bring my luggage over...with a smile. And unlike other places they have overlapping wifi coverage. So whether you're in your room, shooting pool, or eating a meal poolside, you can still check your email, do Google searches, or stream your favorite movies. I'd be remiss not to mention the food. Top notch! And every Sunday evening a live band, that takes requests, and will allow karaoke as well. Also, I'd be remiss not to mention their liberal guest policy. It was never an issue.
Sadly, the Orchid Inn is showing signs of wear that need attention. The rooms are littered with chipped walls, old room service menus with outdated prices, gaudy artwork in the rooms, rusty/clogged bathroom fixtures, low water pressure and rust-smelling water, etc. All could be addressed with one team repairing room by room. But, cleanliness was never an issue. Also, the pillows are horribly uncomfortable with hard foam, and impossible to sleep with. And, no blankets, just sheets. Additionally, the plants, garden, pictures, and outside paint are all looking unkept, faded, and dated.
Regardless, I plan to make the Orchid Inn my go-to haven while in Angeles City.
I stayed in the King Deluxe room (30 m²/323 ft²), which was quite roomy. The other rooms are a bit snug. But they have many long-term guests that prefer the...
Read moreThe Orchid Inn in Angeles has a very decent sports bar that opens out onto the pool. Food is good for the price, with a wide range of options on the menu from local to steak or surf and turf.
Staff are very friendly though the rooms can be a little basic as the Inn has been around a long time. I first stayed here in 2001 and it was basic rooms and a small pool. It's since improved to have two bar/restaurants along with occasional entertainment, and it's right in the heart of the entertainment district.
Rooms are frequently offered at great prices and though they are a little lacking the value is worth it because of the food, pool and location.
I heartily recommend the eggs Benedict and extra bacon for your breakfast. Perfectly poached eggs and fresh muffins. Also the Filipino soup Nilagang Baka is stunning even for foreigners as the meat is super tender and the soup is perfectly seasoned. It's frequently eaten with rice here but I could consume the soup on its own and thoroughly enjoy it.
Again, the staff make all the difference. Apart from a couple of grumps, the rest of the staff will go out of their way to make...
Read moreI woke up in a good mood and was looking forward to breakfast with my girlfriend.
Ordered Spanish omelette at the restaurant by the pool here. Took about 20 minutes to get to me. Very greasy inside and out. The omelet was shiny it had so much grease on it. I ate some but the greasy taste was horrible and gave me a stomach ache, so I ordered oatmeal instead. If you're health-minded I would be very careful about what you order here. I was still charged for the omelet even after the waitress saw all the grease on my plate (see pic and judge for yourself). Oatmeal took another 20 minutes to get to me. It was cooked in milk instead of water - they do that sometimes here in the Philippines but not usually at restaurants full of expats. My girlfriend was not happy and only ate about half her meal and she's Filipino. So I walked out of the restaurant with my girlfriend hungry and so did she 1,000 pesos later. The staff didn't seem to care about my concerns.
The room was below average. It older showed a lot of wear and tear. For the money I paid I don't consider this...
