I booked this hotel online. Based my decision on the images featured on the booking website and the reasonable price. Read some of the reviews and I thought I'd give it a chance. I should have read all the reviews! I even received an email informing me of a shuttle available to pick us up.
The transport van stopped by a very narrow alley, which was the pick-up point. With me were my 81-year old mother, my brother, his wife, my niece and a family friend.
When the shuttle arrived, I had the biggest surprise of my life! It was like a tricycle that people used in the Philippines to transport things. It had no roof or gate. We hauled our luggage in the cab and were seated on planks of wood on the so-called "shuttle."
Then, we went through the narrow alley. Only this tricycle could go through one way. All vehicles and pedestrians would have to wait on either end of the alley until it went through. We went on a narrow cement street down to the beach. Where it ended, the "shuttle" went down an incline and climbed up the other side on a sandy path frequented by typical tricycles with roofs and all. We passed by a cemetery. We traveled about a kilometer and made a right onto two long narrow concrete paths where only the wheels of the tricycle could fit .
We were shuttled under the blaring sun in a hot and humid environment. There was no door to this cab. My 81-year old mother had to climb up the iron bars and be helped down the tricycle.
Right then and there, I decided that we were not going to stay at that place because of the location. I had a "discussion" with the Polish owner on the phone. I told him it was not clear online how his inn was situated. He insisted that we had free use of the "shuttle." The owner and I sort of had a settlement. We decided to stay for a night while we looked for another place.
So, were ready to settle in when we were told that we had to be “shuttled” again further up the sandy road to our accommodation. Another “surprise,” I thought! We finally got to our accommodation. It was not very cozy. The top of one of the bunk beds was practically blocking the air conditioner. Not much could be said about the quality of the sheets and the towels. The room had jalousie glass windows, which meant it could not be kept cool.
We found a cheaper place in the town center. It was a better location and a much...
Read moreFor it's price and location, you get what you pay for. Airconditioning is not part of the package and it did not mentioned it on their ads in Booking.com. Once you paid for it, you can't even use it properly due to black outs. I got told off by the host when using aircon while the generator was running. So save your money and use the fan instead. Water is also filthy. I can't even use it to wash myself off 'coz it smells putrid and rusty. It's a shame because I love the village-y vibe of the place. But sadly due to my frustration, I ended up leaving one day before my check out date. They need to sort their services and utilities together and clean them up and this would be a perfect place to stay for a mini getaway in El Nido for a fraction of a cost. But as it stands now,...
Read moreBooking online cheaper than at front door. At first the Polish owner was friendly and nice to have us spending nights in the hostel. Once we get there, He even said welcome or hello. Kind of rude. His wife is lovely and friendly. The staff we met, only 1 is friendly and kind person. Always smiling. The other staff seems like you are bothering them when you ask something or you need get to the town. Not friendly staff working in a hostel. The place is pretty cool, far away from tourist and party area, clean and comfortable common area. Breakfast a bit poor and the waiting is more than 30 minutes for an omelette with toast. The room doesn't have any shelves/cupboards/table/clothes hanger to leave your stuff. Not bad experience after all because the place was...
