The hotel itself is excellent. Set in a beautiful old factory building, the interior design is very aesthetically pleasing, welcoming lobby area with plenty of space to relax, and tasteful artwork throughout the hotel.
The rooms are great and well maintained, the hotel is easy to navigate (although the card system in the elevators is incredibly frustrating as it usually takes several attempts to recognise your room card).
There is an indoor swimming pool on the roof with a panoramic view of the city. The pool and changing areas are clean and well kept, and there are some pool accessories (floats, water-wings for kids etc.) available to use as well. There is also a rooftop terrace, however it seems to be missing any kind of purpose for guests other than just being there. A bar or cafe up there would have been an obvious addition. There is one but is not on or accessible from the terrace.
Where this hotel fails completely is the staff and the apparent lack of quality service training. While they are generally friendly (there were two exceptions to this) there is an inherent attitude and basic problem solving issue in the face of anything that is even slightly out of the ordinary. For example: I went down to the lobby for a coffee in the morning at 9:50am. I asked for a coffee and was told by the gentleman behind the counter simply "we're closed". No apology, no offer to have staff send coffee to my room, no information given as to where I could go to get a coffee and no information given as to when the lobby bar would open (it was later discovered it opened at 10am) and zero pleasantries about it. It made me feel unwelcome and completely unvalued as a guest, showed a total lack of competence in understanding the role of hotel staff, and when I found out that I could have just waited 10 minutes it just annoyed me. This is not what I expect from a budget hotel, let alone a hotel of this caliber. That was extremely disappointing.
The second problem we encountered was when we went to check the rooftop terrace. We went to have a look around and we're accosted by a member of staff whose attitude was, frankly, completely unacceptable in any circumstance. We wanted to get a drink and sit on the terrace but were told the bar wasn't open (fair enough) then we asked if we could go and have a look. As we went to have a look he barked at us that we had to remove our shoes as we would be passing through the spa area (again fair enough, but ffs a bit of pleasantry wouldn't have been difficult) so we removed our shoes and this guy followed us around like a police escort. That made us feel very unwelcome and his attitude reeked of "I can't be bothered with this". Terrible manners, terrible communication skills, terrible attitude.
There is an obvious training problem in this hotel. If it's not that, they are not paying attention to continuity of standards. Completely unacceptable for a hotel of this quality.
The last problem we had was the price of breakfast. 90zl per person is ridiculous for a buffet breakfast, especially since the hotel is situated in a part of the city where you can literally walk round the corner and find countless places for breakfast (for example Luisse Cafe) for literally half that price and, I would imagine, a far higher quality.
These are all very basic errors that absolutely should not exist in this kind of hotel. The most disappointing factor is all of this happened on the day we were leaving. As a consequence we left the hotel frustrated and very unsatisfied and completely removed any incentive for us to come back, which we absolutely would have had none of this happened, since the rest of our stay was...
