Hotel do Mercado — Hotel in Aveiro

Stayed 2 nights, reception allocated us one of the worst rooms, the windows looked out on the gym, so with the curtains open the guests working out could see directly into our room. Reception reluctantly gave us another room much smaller. It was advertised with a landmark city view it certain was not any sort of view (see picture). |There is a building construction on both sides of our room and all we could hear was jack hammers and noisy builders all day, lucky one of our days was a Sunday when the builders didn't work. There is a terrace downstairs for guest to relax but when I went down a staff member was sitting in the prime location on her phone and gave me a dirty look making it uncomfortable to sit there. Breakfast was 5 euros pretty basic selection, with miserable surly staff members running it.|The room was so small I couldn't pull out the draws in the cupboard because the bed was blocking them, there was just enough room to walk around the bed.The walls were so thin that we could hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms. The bathroom was tiny only one person could fit in, the tiles in the shower were mouldy and the shower head was held up with a cable tie. Awful experience, bedroom it's ok and seems nice but bed comfort inexistent! In addition to the old mattress and without support for the spine, the pillows seem to be recycled from leftover rags. Everything creaks in the bedroom but getting out of bed without waking up the other rooms ...is an impossible challenge, it seems that the bed breaks from so much creaking! (Ok maybe I'm chubby) the soundproofing could be better but the building was renovated and leaves something to be desired... the staff is not at all friendly and especially the manager/owner, being an unpleasant person and unprofessional. Considering nearby hostels, I strongly recommend that you run to a hostel instead of experiencing a bad stay in this space. Oh! Something already said, after 8pm there is no staff, reception number nobody answers, not even an emergency number on this site... nobody answers so good luck to those who have booked and have no refund....

Staff is rude. After submitting a review on booking.com. Staff very defensively and arrogantly responded basically calling us insane just because I commented saying I appreciated them providing USB charger outlets, that I must have mistakened it for another hotel. Please go look at your own hotel photos those outlets are on your walls, in black with white cover plates! They have set the worst example working in the hospitality industry by not wanting to improve even after customers have pointed out their faults and issues, furthermore, offending your customers like that when you obviously don't need to?! Being defensive isn't gonna get you more customers. Definitely, won't be recommending you guys to anyone...
