The Grande Real Villa Italia Hotel & Spa has a special history as the exile residence of the last Italian king and belongs to the "Leading Hotels of the World," known for their excellent service.
The hotel is picturesquely located on the road from Cascais towards Guincho, offering a breathtaking view of the sea and inviting strolls along the promenade. The hotel's furnishings, as well as the rooms, are luxurious, elegant, and spacious. Great attention is paid to cleanliness, and everything is in pristine condition.
Thanks to the excellent king-size mattresses, the sleep comfort is exceptionally good. It is also very pleasant that one can enjoy breakfast until 11 AM, even after sleeping in. The breakfast buffet leaves nothing to be desired and offers a variety of delicacies in a quiet atmosphere. A small downside is that unfortunately, the buffet scrambled eggs are made from liquid eggs and used dishes are rarely cleared away, which I believe is simply due to a lack of sufficient staff during the week. On the other side, you can order fresh omelettes, egg Benedict, etc. which are simply amazing! - Same procedure every morning, wait to be seated at the breakfast restaurant. Did the staff know my name after ten days; no. Is that a a problem; no. Is this excellent service; no.
However, it was absolutely fantastic to experience that even after a relaxed and late breakfast, there were still plenty of free loungers by the pool.
At least, that was the case in the first few days until new guests arrived who started reserving all the loungers with towels at 7 AM but didn't actually show up until the afternoon. Whose fault is this? Ours! After a brief conversation with the manager, they promptly began freeing up empty loungers after an hour. It's nice to see that a hotel takes responsibility and doesn't leave it to the guests to sort things out among themselves. Thank you so much!
The pool service is impeccable, and the exceptionally comfortable cushions invite relaxation even after hours.
The pre- or after-dinner drink service on the terrace, unfortunately, depends heavily on which staff member is on duty. You can have an evening as pleasant as at home with friends (!), or quite the opposite; it also happened two times that we were not attended even after half an hour of waiting and asking for. This has nothing in common with the desired high end service standard but that can happen to anyone of us during work. By the way, there is one guy serving at the terrace, unfortunately not on that bad days, who’s simply outstanding. Five stars for his hospitality and service are not enough. A very special thanks to you!!!
Despite some inconsistencies, which I really chalk up to "everyone has a bad day sometimes“, I can highly recommend the Grand Real Villa Italia. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, this is the place for you. Whether the service meets the desired excellant standard yet, I currently doubt. However, they all are definitely striving to provide the customer with an exceptionally pleasant time. I can hardly wait to return. Thank you all for the hard work behind the curtain to make my vacation time how it...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived at Grande Real Villa Itália, we were swept into a world of elegance, warmth, and genuine hospitality that far exceeded our expectations. What began as a last-minute booking quickly turned into one of the most magical and memorable stays we’ve ever experienced—thanks to the extraordinary team who made us feel not like guests, but like family. From the impeccable service to the heartfelt human touches, every moment was crafted with care and intention.
A special thank you to Miguel, the incredible Concierge Manager, who welcomed us with open arms and grace. It’s not always easy to travel with small children. Miguel understood our needs and helped us navigate the very best of rooms for our family, and from that very moment, we knew we were in caring and capable hands.
Sofia R. was our guiding light throughout the stay—thoughtful, intuitive, and full of warmth. She anticipated our every need and went above and beyond to make sure we were not only comfortable but genuinely cared for. Her presence made the hotel feel like a home.
Tiago from Guest Services brought a level of attentiveness and professionalism that added a seamless ease to our entire visit. Whether it was assisting with arrangements, helping us with the room keys we unfortunately had a habit of losing, or simply checking in on us, his presence never went unnoticed.
Sam, the brilliant bartender, created not just drinks but experiences. His charm and creativity elevated every evening, and his personalized recommendations turned each cocktail into a moment to savor.
Ruben at Valet greeted us with a smile every time we came or went. His kindness and efficiency made transitions in and out of the hotel effortless and pleasant.
Down by the pool, Tanji, Ahmed, Tomás, and Alex were the epitome of gracious service—always attentive, always kind, and especially wonderful with our son. They turned sunny poolside days into cherished memories. Tanji even created a moment my son will never forget—crafting his favorite sandwich from home - a special sandwich made just for him, with such care and joy. It may have been a small gesture, but it meant the world to our family.
Every person we encountered helped weave together a stay that was not just luxurious but soulful—filled with laughter, ease, and heartfelt moments. The beauty of Grande Real Villa Itália is undeniable, but it’s the people who make it truly unforgettable. If you’re lucky enough to stay at Grande Real Villa Itália, count yourself blessed to be in such wonderful hands. This is more than a hotel—it’s an experience of warmth, care, and genuine magic.
To the team: thank you for the magic. We cannot wait to return.

Read moreI went through a travel agent and she booked us a suite as this was my husband and I’s honeymoon. We check in, all smooth. Get to our room and there is an awful smell that just hits you as soon as the door was opened. The odor was similar to a person who hasn’t showered in weeks. I called reception, I asked if it was normal and if I should air out the room by opening windows. He said no, that it was not normal. He said I had two options, have house keeping come and take a sniff and try to see where the source was coming from. After like 20 mins of waiting, a woman arrives with air freshener…… we asked her “do you smell it or is it just us?” She responded that she’s congested and can’t smell overall…… she continues to just spray the suite. Within 5 minutes, the smell is back. Air freshener wasn’t going to solve it. I called reception back. I said “I think we may have to switch rooms because the smell is intolerable.” They tell me they’re going to look into a solution. They call back and say “we only have one more suite available but it has two separate twin sized beds.” Obviously that’s not an option because it’s our HONEYMOON. I asked if we can upgrade to ocean view and we’d pay the difference. She said there is only the suite with twin beds or downgrade to a different room that’s NOT a suite. So she showed it to us, I only cared about it not smelling, which it didn’t. Great, we switched rooms. As reception is giving us new key cards, I ask “is there any chance we can get a refund of the difference since we are downgrading?” She proceeds to say “well we do have another suite and you don’t want it. You’re choosing to downgrade on your own so a refund wouldn’t apply.” I said “we’re not taking the only other suite because it’s a SEPARATE TWIN SIZE bed and we’re on our HONEYMOON.” It was just such a ridiculous statement to make. Especially since our original room smelling awful was on THEM. I had to just suck it up, make the best of it. They apologized but didn’t even offer anything for the inconvenience. I would’ve taken a free drink at that point. They didn’t seem phased at all, which was sad to notice. Overall, it was a decent stay but it left a bad taste in my mouth due to the room smelling awful and throwing in my face that I’M choosing not to take the other suite with separate twin sized beds….on our honeymoon…..for them having an awful smelling room and not...
