The Mix — Restaurant in Cascais

The view is beautiful, atmosphere is pleasant. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Where the restaurant is lacking is food. There is a lack of quality control which is surprising at a restaurant that charges high prices. Our cheese starter was rotten, we sent it back and the chef contested the cheese was ‘not expired’. We are experienced cheese eaters and know the difference, we were still charged for it. The next day we had breakfast at the hotel buffet and tried the same cheese, this time it looked right and tasted good. We were served a lemon butter that tasted fishy, how is that possible when there is no fish in the butter? Likely due to how it’s poorly stored. We also ordered food from the sushi menu, the shrimp tempura was good, the California roll was alright, the tuna sushi was not good, tasted old, very disappointing. Overall below average sushi. The duck was dish was good. We ordered dessert while sitting at the hotel bar, and it came from the same restaurant. The banana split wasn’t great, ice cream tasted old and grainy. Because we were guests at the hotel we ate at the breakfast buffet several days, we were underwhelmed by the hot food options, they also served brown pineapple pieces for two days in a row. Absolute disaster, wow... Where to start? The restaurant was ice cold, we had to ask constantly for attention because no one was coming to the table, several waiters were always coming and going but they all seemed to forget our orders. The food took AGES to come to the table (almost 30 minutes just for bread and butter -starters), the Entrecote was super hard and had a big chunk of fat... The sushi is good, good quality fish, although they only have tradicional, no fusion. The portions are RIDICULOUSLY small! We thought it was joke, how little it was! The fish was tiny, the steak for two people is clearly just for one, the vegetarian dish that has broccoli in the title had 1 tiny broccoli... Sono venuta in vacanza con le amiche (abbiamo 18 anni) per le vacanze di pasqua e volevamo pranzare sul mare il giorno di pasqua. La location era proprio sul mare, tavoli apparecchiati perfettamente e posto più che accogliente davvero di lusso. Abbiamo ordinato a testa un antipasto, un primo e un secondo. Ci hanno portato un antipasto offerto dalla casa, carne e pesce delizioso, carne morbidissima e polipo col pesto buonissimo. Fanno anche opzioni di sushi oltre al classico piatto di mare, di ottima qualità. Essendo celiaca l’ho fin da subito riferito alla cameriera super gentile e disponibile, ci ha consigliato i piatti più buoni e il vino delizioso, inoltre la cucina super attenta al senza glutine. Mi hanno portato pane senza glutine con le salse a parte, antipasto offerto a parte e tutti i piatti senza contaminazione e perfettamente impiattati. Ci aspettavamo un conto super costoso per essere in sei e il giorno di pasqua ma abbiamo pagato meno di 40€ a persona contando le 3 portate a testa, piatti condivisi, bottiglie di vino e acque.
