We are English visiting Portugal and stumbled upon Valério! And it was the cutest restaurant we’ve been to in a while.
The service was impeccably fast while still feeling incredibly unrushed! The atmosphere is intimate in the best way possible. We advised on what was freshest from the marina and what they recommended but left to choose our meal!
We had three courses! We took advantage of the bread, olives and oil for dipping present on the table when you walk in. They do charge but it is 100% worth it for such soft bread. We started with the salmon tartar with avocado and mango. Amazing! So many flavours and beautifully presented! Our mains were both steaks with fries. One garlic and one cream and mushrooms. We were advised the steak was ‘like butter’ they were right. The most melt in the mouth steak you’ll have! Our desserts also tasty! Port beautiful! But the service is for sure the highlight! Our servers were all amazing but particularly the lovely lovely Abel and also the lovely man with glasses were so sweet and attentive to everything we asked! Made us feel like a local far from home. We would visit Valério again in...
Read moreThe ingredients were decent quality, but the food was way too salty and the portions were very small for the price. The service also was really below the standard you'd expect for a restaurant in this kind of location and these kinds of prices. Our main arrived so long before the side that it comes with that we had almost finished it by the time we got our side. We asked the waiters for sauces that they just forgot. And to top it up when the time to pay came they said they don't accept credit or debit cards which no one mentioned before we sat in. When we pointed that out they said there was a paper on the wall which had an MB with a cross on it. I hadn't noticed it but also I had no idea what it was not being a local. We sorted it out in the end but it gives you an idea of the attitude. Long story short, not that pleasant but ok-ish lunch experience if you don't have...
Read moreThis restaurant was a genuine delight and a diamond, not in the “rough”, but in a “tiara” of other spectacular restaurants in the Marina, but this one out shone out over the rest. Paulo the waiter greeted us warmly and gave honest recommendations for food and wine that helped us choose a mix, with Paulo even giving the view that we had enough as adding one dish too many would be too much. He turned out to be absolutely correct: the goat cheese we had to start was sublime (chosen thanks to a previous reviewer) and the squid with a tomato and garlic sauce which Paulo recommended as a “specialty of the day’ went perfectly with the Asian-style tuna we had which came with “al dente” mixed vegetables marinaded in a beautiful soy sauce with ginger. I would recommend the ...
